Thanks to Insomniac Games, players can actually play as the dark antagonists in the game! However, it comes with a twist in which players can only become Venom for a single mission. The mission is titled, Don’t be Scared, which happens towards the end of the game’s second act and unfolds within Oscorp Tower.

Can gamers play as the antagonist in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?

The answer to that question is Yes! Gamers can play as Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Towards the end of Act 2 of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker sheds the black suit with the help of Miles Morales, and both of them capture it while searching for ways to destroy it. Peter takes the Venom symbiote and goes to Oscorp, only to face a dying Harry Osborn, who asks Peter to give it to him. He warns Harry of the threat, but the latter breaks the container, and Venom gets all over him. However, things take a terrible turn when Harry gets entirely consumed by the symbiote and knocks Peter unconscious.

While this entire ordeal is unfolding, Norman Osborn appears and orders the security to get the symbiote off of his son but it is all in vain. This is where the game allows the players to control Venom and rampage through Oscorp with deadly new powers. After playing Spider-Man for so long, this steady change in pace is rather thrilling. Venom tears through the building and wreaks absolute disaster on Kraven’s goons in Times Square. This scene brings up a fight between Kraven and Venom, with the symbiote eventually defeating the Hunter and taking his life. However, this is the only moment in the game where players can play as Venom.

Insomniac Games approached the character for the third time with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 after individually tracing through adventures featuring Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Both of these Spideys are teaming up this time and stand against infamous villains like Venom, Kraven the Hunter, and The Lizard. This game brings an even bigger map, including Brooklyn and Queens, which implies even more skyscrapers to swing from! Players are also granted the ability to create underarm “web wings,” which let them glide across spaces that don’t have tall buildings.
