A fan recently discovered an Easter Egg in the original film which shows a glimpse of Matt Murdock a.k.a Daredevil. In a blink-and-miss scene, Wilson Fisk a.k.a Kingpin sees various versions of his wife Vanessa, and son Richard. One of the alternatives for his son is shown to be a young Matt Murdock, with his red glasses and stick. Many believe that this refers to Earth-65, the universe of Spider-Gwen, where Murdock becomes the Kingpin.

Wilson Fisk a.k.a Kingpin acted as the primary antagonist of the 2018 film Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. However, as much as he is connected to Spider-Man, he is more an arch-nemesis to Matt Murdock a.k.a Daredevil. Fisk was the main antagonist in the Netflix/Marvel series Daredevil and has returned to the MCU in multiple series.

In Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, Fisk builds a collider to find his wife and son in alternate universes but due to some meddling by Miles Morales, other Spider-people from the multiverse end up in his dimension. The rest of the film follows the Spider-gang trying to get back to their universes while Fisk attempts to build the collider again.

In the climax of the film, Fisk sees multiple versions of his family from many dimensions. One of them is shown to be a young Matt Murdock in the place of his son Richard with Fisk’s wife Venessa. Fans theorized that the Easter Egg referenced the alternate dimension of Earth-65, the universe of Spider-Gwen, where Matt Murdock is the Kingpin.

In the comics, Murdock is trained to be an assassin, first by Sticks and then by the Hand, and comes back to New York to become the head of organized crime in the city. He is also a lawyer and his friend is Wilson Fisk, who becomes a patsy and is arrested by George Stace, Gwen’s father. He tries to avenge Fisk’s arrest by becoming the Kingpin.

Will The Daredevil Kingpin Storyline Be Explored In The MCU?

The alternative version of Matt Murdock being the Kingpin is one of the most interesting scenarios in the Marvel universe. While the Easter Egg in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was first expected to be expanded in the sequel, the main antagonist of Across the Spider-Verse turned out to be the Spot and there were no mentions of Kingpin’s existence in Spider-Gwen’s universe.

However, this storyline can be further explored in the MCU. The Disney Plus series What If…? is one of the perfect avenues for the storyline to be explored. Since Daredevil will return to the MCU in Daredevil: Born Again, it could be the perfect time for an episode in a potential third season of the series.

Marvel is also hoping to make a Spider-Gwen film as well as a live-action Spider-Verse film, which could potentially explore the Murdock storyline. According to Variety, producers Amy Pascal and Avi Arad stated that a live-action Miles Morales was in the works as well as a Spider-Gwen film. Since the Earth-65 Kingpin has a long history with Spider-Gwen in the comics, the solo film could focus on this storyline.

The threequel to the Spider-Verse franchise Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse is yet to release. The second film focused a lot more on Gwen’s life as Spider-Woman and her relationships with her father and her version of Peter Parker. The third film might expand on her world and give more details regarding who is who in Earth-65 leading up to the solo film.
