Overwatch 2 season 9 is ahead. At first, the launched with no expectations from the players and passed under the radar. Now Blizzard, the team behind the game, is trying to make some core changes to the gameplay and much work to all the eSports parts of the game.
For this season, they are making some changes to the DPS and Tank roles; this is an attempt to make every match more dynamic. There is no official release date for season 9, but fans have already spoken and are not very happy with these possible changes.
Overwatch 2 season 9 will have very important changes in the core mechanics
It was a mistake to talk about this lone change out of context, since its a part of a much bigger set coming to Season 9. Sorry for that, and I look forward to more discussion around S9 balance changes when we drop more details.

After some leaks and confirmation about the changes that are coming to Overwatch 2 season 9, fans were not happy. Game Director Aaron Keller dropped on X that all roles will have self-healing passive abilities; that was posted on January 12.
Then, the same day, he clarified with another post that said that those changes were part of a larger set of changes that would come in season 9. Later that same day, he posted that it was a mistake to talk about these changes without context, and he apologized.
It seems that several fans are not happy about these couple of changes to the core gameplay. They began to answer Keller’s post with questions like, “Where did you take the feedback to implement these changes?” Others ask, “Did you go to Reddit or the forums?”. Fans cannot conceive where these changes are coming from. For the moment, no more information has been posted about the season 9 changes that have made players uneasy.
The Overwatch 2 community is split because of some leaked information about season 9 that many content creators have already confirmed. Apparently, there are some big HP changes coming in numerous characters; the damage will be reduced as well, making it more difficult to eliminate enemies. This is all speculation for now, but according to the leak information, season 9 will hit on February 20.
Overwatch 2 and a great future ahead
Blizzard has just closed a very big deal with an eSports organization to make a new competition after the now-canceled Overwatch League. This new event will be called the Overwatch Champions Series. This tournament will be international, covering most parts of the world, all with their own qualifiers to take the championship at the end of the year. The competition will give all amateur players a chance to compete. They will also include third-party tournaments on the FACEIT platform.
Beyond this new eSports era for Overwatch 2, there will be several changes in the rank system. This characteristic will be called overhaul and will update the player rank every time the math ends. This was announced back in November.
Overwatch 2 is already available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch.
