Peacemaker was the break-out star of 2021’s The Suicide Squad, helmed by James Gunn. So beloved was the character, played by WWE legend John Cena, that he ended up receiving his spin-off series on HBO Max, with one of the most iconic title sequences of modern-day television.

A beloved character from the show, apart from Peacemaker himself, was the eccentric vigilante Adrian Chase a.k.a Vigilante, played to perfection by Freddie Stroma of Pitch Perfect fame. The budding albeit reluctant bromance between the two characters was the highlight of the show. However, as all eyes train towards Peacemaker Season 2, tragedy might strike their friendship, if one storyline is adapted.

Peacemaker Season 2 could adapt a very dark plotline

In the comic books, Vigilante meets a very tragic end by his own hands. Not to mention, in a separate storyline, Peacemaker becomes more unstable than he is. Season 2 of Peacemaker could explore this storyline but may adapt the plot differently. Peacemaker could be haunted by the memories of his father, slowly making him more unstable than he is. This could directly result in him killing Vigilante, as the Adrian Chase version of the character dies in the comics.

Vigilante might as well kill himself as he does in the comics, but the precedent for that would need to be established and unraveled throughout several seasons. The slaying of the White Dragon does not exercise the demons that Peacemaker might find himself dealing with, thanks to his traumatic upbringing.

Killing Vigilante could also come as a part of his reaction to the traumatic impact that his father had on him, which could be devastating. This could also be manipulated by Amanda Waller, perhaps by using some sort of fear toxin or such, given that she would have an arsenal of convicts with varied powers ready at her disposal.

Taking to Threads to talk about the progress of his upcoming projects, Gunn talked about how far along he is production-wise for Peacemaker and Superman: Legacy. The co-CEO of DC Studios is currently penning the eighth episode of the second season of Peacemaker, which is set to be a ‘banger’.

Additionally, the director for Superman: Legacy also stated that the Superman feature has been completely storyboarded, which means that Gunn is one step closer to entering production proper for the film. Filming, as revealed by Lois Lane actor Rache Brosnahan, is set to commence in March, with the film scheduled to release in July 2025.
