The Argylle star is set to play the lead in the Highlander reboot soon. He will be teaming up with Chad Stahelski, who has been at the helm of the John Wick franchise.
The original film of the same name was released in 1986, with the plot revolving around an ancient immortal. The original film has spawned several subsequent films and shows, but none have been able to reach the popularity of the original, starring Christopher Lambert.
Cavill recently appeared in an interview, speaking with Josh Horowitz. The actor confessed that he was a fan of the films and the show, and the lore behind the plot drew him in. Moreover, he shared how excited he was to be a part of the project and for the audience to watch it.
“I can’t speak to [how much the Highlander film goes into the TV show] at the moment. What they’ve done so far and what we’re doing with the development of the script is extraordinary. I think people are gonna be really, really pleased,” he said.
What can the Highlander reboot touch upon?
So far, very little is known about the project. Even Cavill did not reveal too much about the plot during the interview. So far, he is the only confirmed cast member, and it will be Stahelski’s first film outside of the John Wick films.
The original film told the story of an immortal race at war with another for an eternity. Neither can rest until the other group has been vanquished.
The TV show touched upon various aspects of the lore. While the actor did not confirm it, the belief is that the reboot will take elements from it too. Ryan J. Condal, Michael Finch, and Kerry Williamson are tasked with writing the story.
Henry Cavill is not new to playing the lead in action films. Together with Stahelski, he is sure to thrive in the new role, even though there are no concrete updates as of now.
