It has long been established that if there is a major name in Hollywood who truly understands the ins and outs of pop and geek culture, it is none other than Henry Cavill. The star has shown time and time again just how enamored he is by the Sci-Fi and fantasy genre of entertainment, which isn’t surprising considering some of his most exceptional work comes as Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher series.
Thus, when Lionsgate announced that they were going to reboot the popular Highlander franchise with Cavill as the lead star for the project, people unanimously agreed that the choice was spot on. And now, insider reports claim that X-Men: First Class star Michael Fassbender may be joining Cavill in this adventure in the upcoming reboot.
Henry Cavill May Be Joined By Michael Fassbender In His Upcoming Highlander Film
While he may now have left the successful Netflix series behind in the context of creative differences, many believe that Henry Cavill was at his best when he played the role of Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. Thus, when it was revealed that Lionsgate was bringing the star in to reboot the popular Highlander franchise with Chad Stahelski at the helm, people started to harbor great expectations from the upcoming project.
Recent reports suggest that joining him on this revitalizing journey might be Michael Fassbender, the star who played the iconic role of Magneto in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise. In a recent scoop by reputable insider Daniel Richtman (@DanielRPK), it was claimed that Fassbender was being eyed for an undisclosed role in the upcoming reboot of the franchise by the production.
While it’s still not clear which role the star is being considered for, rumors suggest that the character he will be recruited for may be Kurgan, who was the original antagonist of the 1986 film featuring Christopher Lambert as the main protagonist. These are just speculations, which means we will have to wait for a while and get details from Lionsgate themselves to confirm whether it’s true or not.
What Do We Know About The Upcoming Reboot?
Despite not having much information from the production company, we still have a sizable chunk of intel about the upcoming reboot from confirmed reports and announcements.
Along with Cavill and Stahelski being the pillars of the upcoming project, the reboot is also announced to be a long-term project that will involve the franchising and expansion of the upcoming film, creating engaging and exceptional storylines for the viewers to follow. Along with that, it’s also being rumored that the first film in the proposed series will start production somewhere around this year and is to release in a 2026 window.
