The early to late 2010s have, and the remainder of the 2020s will probably have seen a significant rise in superhero movies, and they rake in huge numbers. But once in a while a movie like Top Gun: Maverick (approved by Steven Spielberg as well!) comes along and challenges these movies at the theaters, and it’s pretty refreshing.
But that’s not the only reason that a movie like that becomes popular. There has also been an increase in movie lovers who would just want to sit back and enjoy a movie without all the “wokeness” that they see in the movies of today, and Top Gun: Maverick has proven to be one such escape for this crowd.
Steven Spielberg Praises Top Gun 2 Star Tom Cruise As Hollywood’s Savior
Not many actors in Hollywood can be credited as being important figures, but there is still a certain set of actors who have been put on a pedestal above the rest. Tom Cruise is one such actor that many movie lovers, and even fans of his, would wholeheartedly agree has a certain foothold in the movie industry.
The Mission: Impossible star is not only one of the highest-paid actors in the world but also one of the most well-known and influential figures in Hollywood. While there may be many who do not agree with this statement, you can hear it from legendary director Steven Spielberg himself.
After having worked together in two of the most successful science fiction movies of the 2000s, first in Minority Report (2002) and again in War of the Worlds (2005), Cruise and Spielberg had a reunion at this year’s Oscar nominees luncheon. The latter ended up speaking highly of Cruise for his recent success with Top Gun: Maverick.
The interaction was recorded and posted to Instagram in a post by The Elephant Whisperers director Kartiki Gonsalves. Spielberg could be heard saying-
“You saved Hollywood’s a*s and you might have saved theatrical distribution. Seriously, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ might have saved the entire theatrical industry.”
If there was anyone that an actor would want to hear words of praise from, Steven Spielberg would definitely be one of them!

Could fans possibly be treated to a third installment in the Top Gun movie series? It’s possible, but they’re definitely going to want to see Tom Cruise back in it again.
