Robert Kirkman Talks about One Weird Aspect

In an interview with Variety, Invincible creator Robert Kirkman talks about one weird thing about his approach to the second season of the show.

Kirkman pointed out how the MCU often tries to make things easy by providing a more realistic touch, avoiding scenarios where the superheroes are interacting with otherworldly beings.

One of the secret sauces of “Invincible” is that we embrace everything about superhero comics. There’s a distillation that happens with the MCU, where they shave the edges off to make everything as real world as possible. Like, you’re never going to see Robert Downey Jr. having a conversation with a fish person in the MCU.”

But, Kirkman said that he loves to keep things weird. He added:

To me, the tradition of comic books is, you know, there was an issue of “Superman” where he had to marry a mermaid. I like the weird stuff, and people seem to respond to that.”

One of the most significant strengths of the show is its willingness to challenge the traditional superhero narrative. The unpredictability of the storyline, coupled with its willingness to take risks, keeps viewers engaged and eager for each new episode.

Invincible Creator Aiming to Run the Series For Seven to Eight Seasons

In an interview with Polygon in 2023, Invincible creator Robert Kirkman said that he believes seven to eight seasons would be enough to adapt the entire comic book series.

I’m trying not to pin it down to a number, because it is somewhat of a moving target. I think in the seven-to-eight-season range seems like it would be enough,” Kirkman said.

But there could be some things we move through a little faster, some things we expand. If we’re fortunate enough to go for a good long time, I think that would be enough to cover the entire comic.”

And there are some things along the way that didn’t get into the comic that I’d like to do. I think it’d be cool to have some episodes here and there that are completely original. So that’s part of the plan moving forward.”

Fans of the show can look forward to many more years of exciting and thought-provoking superhero action.

Invincible season 2 is set to premiere on Prime Video on November 3, 2023.
