Percy Jackson is a fan-favorite character who has found himself heavily entangled with the Greek Gods. Starting with the novel series by Rick Riordan, the books were soon adapted into a movie in 2010 with Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief.
Although the movie received average ratings, the book soon found worldwide fame and became one of the bestselling books of all time. With the recent release of the Disney+ series based on the Rick Riordan books, it seems that Percy Jackson and the Olympians is here to break the MCU records!

The movies weren’t so successful. Despite a notable cast of Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson, and Alexandra Daddario, the 2010 franchise received average ratings with a lot of room for improvement.
In 2023, Disney+ released a rebooted series for fans titled Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Based on the story of Jackson realizing he’s a demigod with a lightning thief on the run and unrest in Olympus, the series has received great reviews so far. What’s more harrowing is the fact that having only released six episodes so far, the series has already overtaken Loki and Secret Invasion!
As per a report by Comicbook, the first two episodes of the series gathered a total of 572 million minutes of watch time. Adding some math to it, the series garnered a total of 13.3 million views worldwide. On the other hand, Marvel’s Loki Season 2 had a total watch time of only 446 million minutes, and Secret Invasion with a total watch time of 461 million minutes!

In the Greek myths, Medusa was a human who was a follower of Athena and took a vow of celibacy. In some myths, Poseidon r*ped her while in others Poseidon and Medusa had a s*xual relationship. Either way, Rick Riordan revealed in an interview with Variety that they took extra care not to showcase the series from just a patriarchal point of view.
“As a 12-year-old boy in 2005, I don’t think he had the bandwidth for deconstructing the patriarchy.”
His wife and executive producer Rebecca Riordan added,
“He was looking at it as ‘This is a scary woman who’s trying to turn me into stone. But that changed upon entering a TV writers’ room, where other perspectives become essential. “It was one of the first things we talked about, how to not have a patriarchal lens,”
The 2023 released series Percy Jackson and the Olympians received a rating of 7.4/10 on IMDB and a whopping 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. With two more episodes on the verge of release, it seems that the series will go on for a few more seasons.
