There have been few video games in recent memory that have had the same level of impact as Persona 5, which was released seven years ago in 2016 and has spawned multiple pieces of associated media. From a spin-off rhythm title called Dancing in Starlight to an upcoming tactical role-playing game fittingly titled Tactica, the legacy of P-Studio’s base RPG is undeniably impressive since it has made its way into so many different genres.

However, the current star of the franchise is undoubtedly Persona 5 Strikers, which has crossed a massive milestone just three years after its launch, as it has sold over two million copies.

Persona 5 Achieves Yet Another Sales Milestone With Strikers

The Phantom Thieves do not seem to be stopping anytime soon because they are dedicated to reaching as many milestones as possible, with Persona 5 Strikers crossing the two million sales mark since its initial release in 2020. The amazing announcement was shared on a Persona Central blog post, accompanied by an official message by the director of the game, Daisuke Kanada, to celebrate the momentous occasion.

What makes this update even more applaudable is that the game was not even released on current-gen consoles or any Xbox generation, resulting in a relatively exclusive and limited launch.

In fact, initially, Persona 5 Strikers only saw the light of day in Japan for a whole year and was exclusively available to play on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. It was not until 2021 that the game finally got a global release for both of those consoles and PCs, so crossing two million sales in such a short amount of time and under such restricted circumstances is quite outstanding.

For those unfamiliar with the title, Persona 5 Strikers was developed by Omega Force and P-Studio, while Atlus handled its publishing, and it was basically a crossover with Koei Tecmo’s Dynasty Warriors franchise.

In addition to the comment from the Persona 5 Strikers director himself, Atlus shared another update with its fans regarding the studio’s media distribution guidelines. The publisher announced that it is opening more distribution channels for the highly successful action role-playing game, which means that it is allowed to be distributed via live streams and video.

Of course, Atlus does not want the experience to be ruined for anyone, so it suggests including a spoiler warning at the beginning of streams or videos if they discuss the Persona 5 Strikers story in detail.

The Game’s Director Talks About the Milestone and the Future

As mentioned before, the director of Persona 5 Strikers, Daisuke Kanada, took part in the celebration and left a heartfelt message for the fans. He started off his note by mentioning that the game’s release date was initially February 20, 2020, in Japan, and continued that the number “2“‘s significant association with the title seemed to be quite “unusual” back then.

Kanada then proceeded to express his gratitude to the Persona 5 Strikers community by stating that because of it, the team was “able to welcome a new ‘2’.”

The newest number “2” is obviously referring to Persona 5 Strikers selling “over 2 million copies worldwide,” and the director admitted that he “couldn’t be happier.” His message continued with him thanking “so many people for their support,” which has led to the game reaching such a wonderful milestone.

This was the point where Kanada’s comment about Persona 5 Strikers became truly wholesome, as he stated that he has “had the opportunity to watch playthrough videos” by “various people.”

The Persona 5 Strikers director said that he feels really “grateful” about being able to create a game that has the power to move so many individuals and make them laugh simultaneously. Regarding the amazing success of the action RPG, the director gave a special shoutout to his team, stating that:

I believe it’s the passion and skills of everyone at Koei Tecmo Games, Omega Force, and the hard work of the Atlus members who walked this path together that led to this result.

Furthermore, Kanada is looking forward to “the release of Persona 5 Tactica,” during which “Joker’s battle continues,” and the director, along with his “staff,” couldn’t be more proud of the upcoming final product. The tactical RPG spin-off is set to launch next week on November 17, and considering how Kanada and the team have done their “best,” Persona 5 Tactica cannot arrive soon enough.
