Quentin Tarantino is one of the most decorated filmmakers of all time. He has helmed numerous films, such as Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction, which have gone on to achieve a sort of cult-like status among film buffs. The director has teamed up with the crème de la crème of Hollywood, and the efforts have always paid off, delivering memorable projects every single time.
Tarantino and Walton Goggins collaborated on The Hateful Eight in 2015, to a similar effect. The film was hailed by critics, and it even went on to win an Academy Award. It enjoyed a good run on Netflix, but it is set to leave the streaming platform this month, much to the dismay of fans.
How Quentin Tarantino revived The Hateful Eight, starring Walton Goggins
Quentin Tarantino‘s filmography is enviable, and he has carved his name in the history of cinema forever. While The Hateful Eight might not be his best work yet, the story behind how he had to overcome hurdles to lift the production off the ground is certainly inspiring.
The story is set after the American Civil War, as eight total strangers shelter together during a snowstorm. Tarantino brought together a stunning cast, with Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, and Walton Goggins, the star of Fallout, among others.
The director hit an obstacle even before the film went into production. In 2014, the first draft of his script was leaked online, and Tarantino ended up scraping the project altogether. In an interview with Deadline, he stated that he knew who could have leaked the script.
“I gave it to one of the producers on Django Unchained, Reggie Hudlin, and he let an agent come to his house and read it. That’s a betrayal, but not crippling because the agent didn’t end up with the script. There is an ugly maliciousness to the rest of it. I gave it to three actors: Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Tim Roth. The one I know didn’t do this is Tim Roth. One of the others let their agent read it, and that agent has now passed it on to everyone in Hollywood,” said the filmmaker.
The Django Unchained director eventually changed his mind and proceeded with a live reading of the script at the United Artists Theater in Los Angeles. Tarantino took heart from the success of the event, and he revived it.
The film was a critical success. Tarantino managed to convince Ennio Morricone to compose the original score for the film, and he went on to win his first and only Oscar as a composer.
Tarantino’s film is set to leave Netflix this month
Netflix is the largest streaming platform, with an astonishing collection of films and shows. While its database is huge, the streaming site does not own all the content.
It holds contracts with studios and production companies, hence, titles come and go from the site. Licensing agreements also factor into this greatly. Tarantino’s film is set to leave the platform on April 24th, including the extended cut, and fans are dismayed since many consider it to be his best film.
Personally my favorite Tarantino movie. Sam Jackson and Walton Goggins are phenomenal in this movie. Great cinematography, story, dialogue, violence and more. 10/10 pic.twitter.com/hAW5R43JOe
