“I’m not a gamer, my son is a gamer”: Walton Goggins’ Confession Makes His Fallout Performance Even More Terrifyingly Brilliant

Fallout has become the talk of the town through its stellar reviews. It is rare for video game adaptations to get good responses from fans, let alone critics. However, this series managed to outrun this curse, not only evading the negative feedback that comes with such projects but also only getting good reviews.

Walton Goggins, who plays the role of Cooper Howard, has been especially praised for his performance in the series. Perfectly encapsulating the essence of The Ghoul in a way that has shocked many viewers. During a recent interview, the actor revealed the process he used to get into character.

He also mentioned something that was truly surprising and showcased just how good of an actor he is. It would seem that Goggins was not very familiar with the universe, having never played the games.

Walton Goggins’s Process of Becoming The Ghoul

Walton Goggins recently gave an interview with The Post, where he talked about every aspect of making Fallout. He mentioned what it was like to wear all the make-up as well as play a character at two very different points in his life. Here, he was asked about how he prepared to assume the role of Cooper Howard, and the process seems extensive, to say the least.

“I read the script 250 times and that’s a lot of reading. You do the math. So it’s always in my head. It’s always in my imagination. So I watched a lot of movies, took a long time to put this makeup on every day. And I watched a lot of Westerns, trying to understand, okay, well, this is a good comparison for the goal or a good comparison for Cooper Howard.”

The actor started by revealing that he had read the script more than two hundred times in order to get it ingrained in his mind. He would imagine and live in the universe of Fallout even before filming began, understanding the experiences of his character.

He would then watch movies with similar characters to The Ghoul. He would do this in between filming and when he was sitting on the make-up chair, taking every waking moment he had to get into character the best he could. He also did something many other actors do.

“In addition to that, I think like so many other people in our business, I just went through and made a playlist, you know, of maybe 50, 60, 70 songs that is just always kind of on in the background. It’s almost like hearing a novel or something like that for the person that you’re playing.”

Goggins revealed that he also made a playlist for the character so that his ears were familiar with the type of person he was to play. It is safe to say that the actor was dedicated to the role he took on. With this in mind, what Goggins revealed later on during the interview will shock many fans.

Walton Goggins Was in the Dark About Fallout

Walton Goggins was then asked if he was familiar with the source material of the series; that being, the Fallout games. These are some of the most successful and well-known video game communities, and it would seem that that actor was only aware of them through association.

His son is a gamer and is familiar with the games. Although he had heard of the games and how successful they were, he had never played them, even though he helped adapt the live action. Interestingly enough, he preferred it this way, as it gave him room to portray The Ghoul without the influence of the games.

“I am not a gamer, my son is a gamer. I’m not a gamer. And so I’d heard the name Fallout, but I was not familiar with the world at all. And I’m happy that I wasn’t, and I haven’t played the game, and I have the blessing of Todd Howard, the man who came up with the game.”

He also revealed that the creator of the games, Todd Howard, enjoyed what Goggins did with the character and gave his portrayal his blessing.
