Phil Spencer has many ideas beyond his station, it would seem. And going by the confidential documents that have just been revealed, we can see firsthand just how cavalier his attitude is in terms of acquisitions.

The leaked documents in question formed part of the evidence in the recent FTC trial and show just what was going on behind the scenes. Not that it’s a surprise to many what Phil Spencer’s business ethos is like.

Who could Phil Spencer be lining up next?

We know that the acquisition of Activision Blizzard has certainly put a spanner in the works for any potential future business. But at one time, Phil Spencer had set his sights on obtaining Warner Bros. Interactive (currently known as Warner Bros. Games).

And according to rumors, he was alleged to say that the company was ‘gettable‘ but that if they did, ‘we wouldn’t own any of the IP, which hurts long-term flexibility‘. What we don’t know is whether this position will change in the future after the legal storm dissipates.

Seemingly not content with setting his sights on Warner Bros., the Redmond firm is rumored to have its sights on adding Valve to its ever-growing list of companies it is looking to acquire.

Let’s not forget how highly Phil Spencer praised the company on the release of the Steam Deck back in 2021.

This looks really great, congrats to the team at @valvesoftware on getting so many of us excited to be able to take our games with us wherever we decide to play.” – @XboxP3

There would be no surprise if, when Spencer first saw the Steam Deck, he just saw the dollar signs and looked at this as a possible future asset.

Going by the leaked documents, we can see that Spencer regards the acquisition of Nintendo as some kind of holy grail that would be the pinnacle of his career. But despite him seeing this as a ‘good move for both companies‘, the chances of it happening, if at all, are slim to none.

For those who didn’t know, Microsoft did attempt the unthinkable and tried to buy Nintendo when it was first making the Xbox. Kevin Bachus, director of third-party relations for the Xbox project, recalls the Japanese company simply ‘laughing their asses off‘ for a long period of time. Fast forward to 2023, and would they risk being laughed at again?

Many of you may remember recently the meme of Phil Spencer parodied as Thanos. With it was the Infinity Gauntlet, which had companies instead of Infinity Stones. It doesn’t seem so silly now, does it?
