Xbox Series X Console Prices Will Not Go Down

Phil Spencer said that Xbox Series X prices are not going to drop and the company has built Xbox Series S for the very same reason. He stated that the prices aren’t coming down because of Series S and Xbox wanted to ensure that they had a sub-$300 console for growth. An entry-level price point for consoles opens the way for many new players who are entering the market for the first time.

He continued that Xbox consoles are loved both by players and the creators who are creating on the platform. But everything that Xbox does is to ensure that they don’t force gamers to buy the consoles to play the games that are built by Xbox or its subsidiary studios. It’s a clear approach that they want to build around the player.

Spencer also admitted that it is very important to have a good price point so that players can get their hands on the console however they can not start with a console that is priced at $500 and expect it to be down at $200. It’s just not possible. He explained that no one is making RAMs or other components for consoles that could go for over 10 years and then they could ride the console prices down. Hence this is the reason why console prices are almost always flat.

Microsoft will not introduce a mid-gen console upgrade to Xbox

Talking about a few people wanting Xbox to introduce a mid-gen console upgrade to Xbox just like the PlayStation 5 Pro, Phil Spencer said that hardware refreshes are just not ideal for players and developers. He added that such hardware refreshes always complicate the console route and overlap the gap between PC and console gaming.

Phil Spencer also spoke about the Xbox 360 store shutdown, saying the decision was made in terms of hardware and lifespan of the hardware and the gaming and buyers community on Xbox 360 which is now very small. And since most of the players have moved on, Xbox will not shift its focus on where the gamers are and what they’re buying and willing to buy.
