Even Sandra Hüller Doesn’t Have a Definitive Answer About Sandra’s Innocence

The legal drama, which revolves around Hüller’s character Sandra being accused of murdering her husband, never really leaves a definitive answer for the audience as to whether she is guilty or not. And it appears it’s not only fans who were left scratching their heads to figure out the truth, as Sandra Hüller herself isn’t sure if Sandra is innocent or not. Speaking with Variety, the Sibyl Star revealed that the acclaimed filmmaker Justine Triet never gave her a definitive answer, but only told her to play Sandra like innocent.

“Of course I wanted to know whether she was guilty or not, but my director didn’t tell me. She just said a horrible, horrible sentence: ‘Play her like she’s innocent.’”

With no one answer in sight, Triet has left it to the audience’s perception to interpret whether Sandra is innocent or not in the intense drama, which deserves every applause it gets.

An Intimate Scene Between Sandra and Vincent Was Supposed to Be in Anatomy of a Fall

While the verdict is left for the viewers to interpret, Sandra Hüller did seemingly confirm that there is indeed an affair between her character and the charming lawyer, played by Swann Arlaud. Reflecting on the implied affair between Sandra and her lawyer, Vincent, in the film, she revealed there was supposed to be an intimate scene between the two. However, the idea was scrapped, as Marie-Ange Luciani, one of the producers, felt it was too ’80s.

“There was an actual love scene in the film, we could see their affair, and she said: ‘Please, don’t do it, it’s so ’80s,’ which is very true. Why do people always have to prove they love each other by going to bed with each other? It’s so dull!”
