The 2024 action-comedy, The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt as the leading stars made its way to the theaters earlier this month to much fanfare. Packed with stunts, adventure, humor, and romance, the flick has earned its way to the top spot in the audience’s hearts. Also featuring the likes of Winston Duke, Aaron-Taylor Johnson, and Hannah Waddingham as part of its cast, interestingly enough, one behind-the-scenes incident would connect the British actress from the list directly with Thor actor, Chris Hemsworth.
Famed for his staggering physique and command of the screens, the Marvel actor undoubtedly boasts immense versatility, proving it with the upcoming Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga movie. However, the uncanny connection between Waddingham and Hemsworth goes beyond the scope of acting and has much more to do with their nativity to the Australian landscape.
A Hannah Waddingham The Fall Guy scare that once left Chris Hemsworth unfazed
Hannah Waddingham played the role of Gail Meyer, an in-movie film producer in The Fall Guy. While her character involves adding depth and an angle of conspiracy and threat to the flick, the real-life implications of filming in Australia took a toll on the actress. In her May 7, 2024 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she laid bare how she called on the movie producers requesting to let her leave as she scared herself out on the sets.
“And I rang the producers and I was like, “I’m so sorry, I’m going to be a delicate little English girl and go, ‘Please get me out of here.”
It happened when a giant cockroach, which she described as “the size of my head” landed on her hand when she reached for a door handle. Notorious for its wild flora and fauna, Australia hosts some of the most unique and frightening species. Remarkably, Chris Hemsworth, who happens to be an Australian, once narrated an incident on The Graham Norton Show in 2020 which had him taking selfies with a giant spider and a snake as if they presented no threat.
“I just launched into like action mode grabbed it by the tail, picked it up and if one starts freaking out and it starts to kind of coil itself back up toward me which is getting ready to strike and I’m like what the hell am I doing so I just kind of threw the snake back”.
The act by The Avengers actor stands miles above the reaction shown by Hannah Waddingham and does stand out as one that would have him let out a laugh of confidence if ever they both sit and discuss this topic. Meanwhile, the duo stand set and prepared to fight against one another for box office dominance in May.
The Fall Guy swings up in theaters as Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga gets ready
Released on May 3, the Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt starrer made more than $27 million worldwide on its box office debut and has so far doubled its tally to now sit at $66 million global gross. Additionally, it has an 82% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes against an 87% audience rating. Described as an absolute cinematic experience packed with high-octane action, The Fall Guy has set a Guinness World Record for the most cannon rolls performed in a car and making up for its credibility.
In the meantime, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will have Chris Hemsworth star alongside Anya Taylor-Joy and stand out as a post-apocalyptic action-adventure film, serving as both a sequel and a prequel to Tom Hardy’s Mad Max: Fury Road. Playing the role of Warlord Dementus, the Australian actor will likely come off as an antagonist with a deeper character arc and stays set to release on May 24, 2024.
The Fall Guy is now running exclusively in theaters.
