The show’s victory marked the second instance of a series winning with different hosts, the first being The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and Jay Leno. The win was considered somewhat unsurprising, with Last Week Tonight with John Oliver moved to a different category.

The Emmy Awards, originally scheduled for September, were delayed due to strikes by Hollywood writers and actors. Regardless, fans were definitely pretty happy for Trevor Noah’s achievement. It is also to be noted that Trevor Noah left The Daily Show in December 2022.

I told you we’d beat John Oliver if he wasn’t in our category. We did it, we got rid of John Oliver. This story has been so long, so crazy, so wonderful. I want to start by thanking the crazy Africans who followed me to this country, David Kibuuka and Joseph Opio, David Meyer, my partner in crime, the writers and the team, Roy Wood Jr. from the very beginning, Jordan Klepper, whose flight got canceled, showrunner Jen Flanz, this woman rode with me through the trenches, thank you so much to the team, to everyone who gave us an opportunity, and honestly, the person I always thank because he’s a crazy genius for thinking of it, Jon Stewart. Wherever you are my friend, thank you for calling me up and asking me to come and join you on this crazy journey.”

During Trevor Noah’s awards speech, fans on Twitter noticed Roy Wood Jr. shouting “Please hire a host” and this became a viral sensation on the social media platform. Afterwards, Wood Jr. commented on the video, stating: ”Chill fam I was trying to do that in the low.” He made it clear he was just vibing and wasn’t really serious about the statement.
