With the X-Men ’97 series, Feige’s superhero franchise has hit the jackpot as the series has got the entire fandom jumping with excitement, Although the near-perfect series had one major reason for the backlash that was compensated for featuring their favorite mutants and well-written themes that made the show contagiously popular.

While the show remains a stand-alone entity, Kevin Feige has gone back and forth to making the series canon to the MCU. During an exclusive interview with Inverse, Emi Yonemura, the director of two episodes in the series shared how Kevin Feige went back and forth with the decision of the show being MCU canon.

He said,

“That has always been something we know was on Kevin Feige’s mind, do we make this part of the MCU? Do we not make this part of the MCU? It’s actually gone back and forth quite a few times, and I think we did land in a smart place because [X-Men: The Animated Series] was its own thing, and I think that to continue it we needed to be our own thing.”

“We’re getting the X-Men in this format and we’re doing it justice not just by ourselves, but also other fans as well, and we’re starting to get a resurgence of the X-Men in film again. I love that. And I think it’s great that we can have different things, let them be different.”

Nevertheless, the show has performed brilliantly as it has a score of 98% on the Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the best animated shows.
