The first chapter of the series initially launched on PC in 2021 and mobile in 2022. It has since developed a large fan base with its episodic releases set in the terrifying Playtime Co. toy factory. The developer recently delayed the third chapter to next year, but is giving fans an imminent console release to tide them over.

Horror game fans can look forward to getting spooked this holiday season. After years of success on PC and mobile platforms, Poppy Playtime is coming to consoles imminently. As confirmed by Mob Entertainment in a post on X, Chapter 1 will release on PS4 and PS5 on December 20 for players in the Americas and Asia.

The studio added that players in Europe will have to wait longer, as the game will be “launching later” in that region. However, no exact release date has been confirmed yet.

The game will also be making the jump onto the Switch. Chapter 1: A Tight Squeeze will launch on Nintendo’s console on December 25, allowing players to visit the spooky Playtime Co. toy factory on Christmas Day.

The developers already revealed last month that they were working on a console port of the game, and said they were “really happy with how the console version [was] turning out.” According to the team, the iconic GrabPack controls in the game are a “very natural fit” with a console controller.

This should allow a smooth gaming experience for both veteran and new players. The console port will also feature visual updates with enhanced graphics and art. Players can pre-order the PlayStation port of Chapter 1 right now. Pre-orders for the Switch release will open tomorrow, December 18.

In the vein of Five Nights at Freddy’s, it places you in a terrifying abandoned toy factory. Using the GrabPack controls, you explore the facility and solve puzzles to uncover the gruesome mystery behind the disappearance of the factory workers, all while trying to survive the terrors of the bloodthirsty toys.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 Has Been Delayed

Chapter 2: Fly in a Web was released for PC and mobile devices in 2022 as a sequel to the first episode. The third chapter was slated to release this month, but has just been delayedfor several additional weeks into 2024.”

Claiming that the upcoming chapter would be “the biggest, highest quality installment to Poppy Playtime yet,” the team stated it needed more time to finish the title and meet its quality standards.

This delay comes after several developers exited the studio earlier this month, stating differing creative and managerial opinions as reasons for their departure. While this has led fans to worry about the future of the franchise, the developer is still on track to release the new console versions in the coming days.

The horror mascot game series featuring terrifying children’s toys and dolls has gathered a large following in recent years. The games get praise for their creative character designs, chilling atmosphere, and detailed story and lore.

The series has also forayed into the realm of asymmetrical co-op games, with the free-to-play spin-off Project: Playtime having launched into Steam Early Access in December 2022.

Now, Huggy Wuggy from the popular series will be expanding its reach further with the imminent release of the PlayStation and Switch ports of Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 before the end of the year. This will allow even more players to visit the creepy toy factory on their preferred platform and should tide fans over until the release of Chapter 3.
