Amber Midthunder is in talks to reprise her role as Naru in the upcoming Prey 2. One of 2022’s standout hits was Prey. Although the film initially felt like an attempted cash grab, it turned out to be a critical hit after its Hulu release. Besides breaking viewership records, the action sequences, direction, and performance by the entire cast received appreciation.
The plot of Prey centered around a tribe of the Northern Plains in 1719 and how a young Comanche warrior saves her people from a humanoid alien creature. Several critics hailed the film as the best addition to the Predator franchise since Arnold Schwarzenegger’s first feature. The 2022 movie also has the record for holding the highest RT rating of 94% in the entire franchise.
What do we know about Prey 2 yet?
Prey had a massive role in re-igniting the fans of the Arnold Schwarzenegger franchise. Several fans who did not enjoy the Predator sequels found Prey to be the best film in the franchise. The success of the Amber Midthunder movie guaranteed that we would get to see more projects in the franchise soon. Now, according to Deadline, Prey 2 is in the early stages of development.
If the reports are believed, Amber Midthunder is also in the talks to return to the film as Naru. The fans loved her performance in the first film, and if she is confirmed to reprise her role in Prey 2, then she would be the only cast in the franchise who returned in a sequel. With her being the new War Chief of the tribe, she is also expected to have a more significant role if she returns to the franchise.
The credits of Prey teased three different alien vessels heading towards Naru and her tribe. Prey 2 could kick off the story from there. The man behind the Predator costume, Dane DiLiegro can also reprise his role in the upcoming sequel. However, it is too quick to conclude anything as director Dan Trachtenberg is more invested in another standalone Predator film titled Badlands.
Prey 2 is not the only Predator film in development
Even though Prey had a critical role in getting back the fans of the Predator franchise, Prey 2 is not the current biggest priority for 20th Century Fox. Dan Trachtenberg and his team are currently working on another addition to the franchise titled Badlands. Reportedly, Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison have completed the script and are eyeing for the perfect cast.
Following the success of Prey, some rumors state that we can also expect a female lead in Badlands. The film is currently in an advanced state of development than Prey 2 and is expected to be dropped before the latter. Disney has given Dan Trachtenberg a difficult burden to steer this new Predator franchise in a new direction. The results of Badlands and Prey 2 will play critical roles in paving the future of the franchise.
Reportedly, the makers are focused on expanding the franchise to more than two films. It will be seen if the upcoming sequels can lead the Predator franchise to a new and successful direction.
