The official trailer for Prime Video’s Fallout has a lot going on in three minutes, as it presents the main characters in more detail, tries to give information about the story, and showcases the aftermath of a nuclear war. But out of all of those aspects, there’s one that stands out the most, promising an extraordinary arc and development.
That element is none other than The Ghoul, played by Walton Goggins, who’s described as “a morally ambiguous bounty hunter,” but before the world went into chaos and turned into a radiated hellscape, the character had a whole other life with a regular name and a different but similarly nefarious job.
Walton Goggins’ The Ghoul, aka Cooper Howard, Steals the Show in the Fallout Trailer
Although Walton Goggins couldn’t be present during the press conference that the Fallout team held before the official trailer debuted, he provided plenty of key information about his scene-stealing character in the upcoming series. He explains how The Ghoul is “a very, very, very complicated guy,” but there is much more to his story than one might expect from the notorious bounty hunter, as the drastic circumstances around him have forced him to take on the new role.
Goggins stated that “to understand him,” viewers have to “understand the person that he was before the war,” revealing that he was not always called The Ghoul.
In fact, The Ghoul used to go by the name of Cooper Howard, which is quite a contrast from his current title in Prime Video’s Fallout TV show, and Walton Goggins explained how “he was a vastly different person” than the one viewers have been acquainted with till now. The trailer and Goggins also suggest that the series will probably rely on flashbacks to show how the world used to be before the nuclear apocalypse, and Howard will potentially be at the center of it all.
Acting as “the bridge between both these worlds,” the character seems like he will have the most intriguing story and motivations.
Prime Video’s Fallout Trailer Also Shows The Ghoul’s Previous Career Path
Calling Walton Goggins’ The Ghoul the star of the Fallout trailer would be an understatement, as he kicks things off by saying that he is “here to show you a wonderful place.”
Before becoming a bounty hunter to survive in the nuclear Wasteland, Cooper Howard used to be a salesman for Vault-Tec and was trying to get people to buy residences in the seemingly safe Vault.
It almost seems like he was expecting the war to take place, preparing humanity for “the worst” and telling it that the only way “to build a better day” is by purchasing property from his company.
