Prison Break is slated for a big comeback as Hulu develops a reboot of the fan-favorite series with Mayans M.C. co-creator and showrunner Elgin James. Details are still kept under wraps, though the original characters are reportedly no longer returning.
The original Prison Break series debuted in 2005 and followed Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) as he tries to prove the innocence of his convicted brother Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell). Scofield designs an elaborate escape plan to save Burrows from death row.
Prison Break Actor Dominic Purcell Addresses Hulu Reboot Series
Original star Dominic Purcell finally gives his blessings to the upcoming Hulu series via his Instagram account. The show played a significant part in his career, and now he has confirmed that this chapter of his life has come to an end. He wrote:
“Prison Break was an extraordinary gift for me and those closest to me. Especially my family. I was humbled mightily by its success here and globally. A one-off. A rare occurrence. I was very lucky, that has never been lost on me.”
The actor acknowledged the instant success of the show and thanked the fans for supporting it throughout its five-season run. He continued:
“I’m indebted to so many. Thank you all-especially the fans throughout the world for making it what it was. A success that caught me off guard. The impact the show had on people always fascinated me. Very humbling.”
He also confirmed that his co-star Wentworth Miller won’t be returning as well, along with the news that the reboot series is currently in development. Purcell concluded his caption:
“In closing, a new iteration of “Prison Break” without myself nor Wentworth is in the early stages of production. I wish them well. That chapter has closed. A new chapter beckons, a new and real possibility brewing.”
Without Miller and Purcell, the new Hulu reboot is expected to be a new story that still takes place within the world of the original series.

Dominic Purcell Left Prison Break In Support Of Co-Star Wentworth Miller
In 2020, Wentworth Miller announced that he will no longer return to the show. Coming out as a gay man in 2013, the actor confessed he is done playing straight characters. He wrote on Instagram:
“I’m out. Of PB. Officially. Not of static on social media (although that has centered the issue). I just don’t want to play straight characters. Their stories have been told (and told). I understand this is disappointing. I’m sorry. If you’re hot and bothered you fell in love with a fictional straight man played by a real gay one… That’s your work.”
Dominic Purcell fully supported his co-star, which also made him decide to leave the show altogether. He responded to Miller’s post:
“It was fun mate. What a ride it was. Fully support and understand your reasoning. Glad you have made this decision for your health and your truth. Keep the posts coming. Love ya, brother.”
With the confirmation of the main stars’ exit and the report of a new iteration, fans will have to wait and keep their eyes peeled for more news updates about the rebooted Prison Break series.
