Known for their Hitman games, IO Interactive has been crafting and exploring a new title, and it’s based on no other than the James Bond universe. According to an interview with IO Interactive’s Co-Owner, Project 007 has been in the works for some time, but we’ll have to wait a while before we hear anything about the game.

The experience will include James Bond’s iconic action sequences, and missions to fight through and investigate. And, of course, fancy suits and silent pistols. IO Interactive’s works in the past have given the industry enough reason to believe that the studio can be quite creative when it comes to espionage-esque gameplay experiences.

What Is Project 007 All About?

Project 007 will take into account James Bond's undying legacy.

Playing as Agent 47 in the Hitman games has been a spectacular adventure. But, playing as Agent 007 in a game made by the people who made the Hitman games? Now that’s worthy of all the hype in the world.

It seems that IO Interactive’s vision isn’t to create an adaptation based on previous films that star James Bond as the stylish agent that he is. Instead, it is going to be based on the same universe, but with novel ideas, characters and storylines. We might even get to see subtle references and callbacks to iconic moments from Agent 007’s rich history.

That said, in a most recent interview with Edge, Abrak expressed that this title will fit more in line with the Daniel Craig version of the character. The CEO said:

The few other breadcrumbs we’re able to pick up in the office suggest a tone closer to Daniel Craig than Roger Moore, and perhaps a more scripted experience than Hitman’s freeform jaunts,

Given the Hitman games’ brand-defining shifts in identity; it’s known that players would often experiment with different ‘roles’ in the game.

On one hand, they may be playing as a detective exploring an old mansion with the ulterior motive of locating an assassination target. On the other, they may blend into the kitchen staff as a humble chef waiting to slash through their target the moment an opportunity shows up.

These games have set a solid foundation for IO Interactive to explore the true possibilities of Project 007. Instead of one man shifting identities, maybe we can play as multiple agents belonging to the same organisation.

Or, perhaps, we’ll get a better look at the dark underbelly of the James Bond narrative in Project 007, through the eyes of a sociopath willing to do anything in order to reach new heights of organised crime.

From Agent 47 to Agent 007 – IO Interactive Has a New Vision

In 2021, Hitman 3 release and would become a worldwide success, with 500k+ copies sold on Steam alone. The game has exotic locations to explore, as you locate and assassin several high-level targets that pose a threat to the world.

Different generations of gamers have experienced the Hitman games through several titles, DLCs and even a couple of film adaptations.

However, IO Interactive has moved on from the franchise altogether and they’re now building up a new vision. With Project 007 the studio is expanding and looking to explore its horizons ever further.

IO Interactive’s track record with superb titles and testing out new gameplay mechanics throughout the years has undoubtedly proven that Project 007 is in great hands.

At the time of writing, there’s close to no information about how the game will look and feel. So, all we can do is wait and give the studio the time they deserve to craft yet another masterpiece.
