Well, Downey Jr. may no longer be Iron Man, but that will not stop him from protecting people from online predators. The adored Hollywood actor recently unveiled his newest initiative, which focuses on shielding children from online dangers.

Downey Jr., best known for playing Iron Man in the MCU, has turned his attention to a different kind of heroism. He is using his fame and power to address the growing concern for children’s safety in the digital age.

Robert Downey Jr. Is On A New Mission To Protect Kids 

Recent years have seen an increase in the number of online threats, including cyberbullying and online predators. These troubling statistics prompted Robert Downey Jr. to use his resources to spread the word and take precautions against the dangers that helpless children face all around the world.

The well-known actor hopes to embark on a real-world mission to support keeping families safe online by teaming up with renowned Aura, a sponsor of Good Morning America.

The Chaplin actor is collaborating with GMA sponsor ‘Aura’ to help families against online crimes like fraud, hacking, and identity theft. The Child Crime Prevention and Safety Center estimates that 500,000 online predators threaten children every day. This is particularly alarming. The actor told Good Morning America:

“Every six seconds, someone’s identity is stolen. And then last year, a million kids had their identity stolen. And I find that very unnerving.”

Furthermore, Downey Jr. wants to use his fame to inform both parents and kids about safe online habits. He uploaded a video to Instagram with the caption:

“Kids heading back to school? Let’s up the online safety. See what my expert partners @aura_protects have to offer.”

The video further illuminates with the following information:

“One out of two kids in the US were victims of cyberbullying in 2022. Protect your family’s online safety.”

The software that Aura has created is “an all-in-one intelligent safety solution that is simple to understand and easy to use,” according to the company. Its online safety app can be used in a proactive or reactive manner during a cyberattack. In addition, the app offers everything in one location, from device security to parental controls.

Robert Downey Jr. And Aura’s Collaboration To Promote Online Safety

The upcoming television series, The Sympathizer, and Robert Downey Jr.’s collaboration with Aura are two examples of the projects he said he chose to work on because they are ones that really matter. According to him, he wanted to feel as though he was giving his devoted fans a “meaningful” service. To quote him:

“There has to be something where I feel like it really is providing a meaningful service. I think that when you have an audience that’s come to trust that you bring them a certain quality of entertainment, when you come into the real world … the onus is really on you to apply those same principles.”

The actor, who was ranked as Hollywood’s highest-paid actor by Forbes from 2013 to 2015, further added:

Robert Downey Jr.’s upcoming historical black comedy-drama TV series, The Sympathizer, is based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s 2015 novel of the same name.  

The series will premiere on HBO and be available for streaming on Max in 2024.
