If you were lucky enough to be born back before 1999 and own a PlayStation 2, then good news, as one PS2 game could fetch you a boatload of money if you have it hidden away somewhere. That being said, there are a lot of different criteria boxes to check before this game is worth as much as $700, but it can still fetch a pretty penny.
Even though this game could be worth a lot of money, there is a risk that even if you do own it and have it hidden away somewhere, it sadly won’t be worth as much as many people are making as it would need to be in perfect condition, and even some have only reached this price as they are still sealed and un-used.
What PS2 Game Could Be Worth Over $700 if It Is Still Sealed and in Good Condition?
The game that is in question and could make you hundreds of dollars is the PlayStation 2 version of Toy Story 2, which was a platformer that followed Buzz Lightyear as he travelled through numerous different levels in his adventure to find Woody.
Throughout this adventure, Buzz would come up against many different enemies and would even bump into some familiar friends like Rex, Ham, Slinky, and Mr. Potato Head. At the time, this was a very interesting concept, as it followed a similar pathway to the movies and had some rather fun gameplay aspects.
What makes this game so interesting as to make it worth so much money is that back when the PlayStation 2 was first released, some games that sold over 150,000 copies were then given a greatest hits mark, which was put on the box of certain games and was sold for an even cheaper price than the original game.
This meant that these copies of games were incredibly unique and had an alternate box and disc that, if found today, would be rare and worth a lot of money. Since Sony is no longer making the greatest hits copies of games, it makes these copies even rarer, as it is impossible to get them anywhere else except for those who already own them.
Since it is now impossible to get these copies, it is even more important that each copy that is sold at this price is fully sealed and has the green strip that shows that it is a greatest hits copy, rather than just a bog standard copy, which is only worth around $120 as long as the disc, instructions, and box are all there in good quality.
Even though the entire game and all its accessories could catch a gamer with a $700 or more price tag, each individual item could still fetch a nice price. If a player only has the game disc, they could still be looking at around $100, whereas the box without the disc goes for around $115, and finally, the instructions alone could catch the player for around $71.
As said above, this is still dependent on the quality of each item; if the contents are essentially falling apart, then it is sadly unlikely that you will be able to acquire the massive price tag that those lucky few have already begun to collect over the past few days.
Since there are clearly well over 150,000 copies that were sold to make the game a greatest hit, it is likely that many gamers out there will still have this game hidden in their houses somewhere, but as the market fluctuates, it could become even more valuable as games like that become rarer to find.
