Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise were once Hollywood’s power couple. The stardom of Cruise and Kidman’s rising status has long been a part of the buzz surrounding the couple. The Australian gorgeous and action megastar tied the knot in 1990, a few months after meeting on a movie set.
The former couple met on the set of Tony Scott’s 1990 film Days of Thunder and their liking for each other grew, as they married in less than a year on Christmas Eve. Later, the couple appeared in two more films together and made many red-carpet entrances. In their eleven years of marriage, the couple had their ups and down, with several memories to cherish, including being friends with Princess Diana of Wales.

Following their marriage, the couple expanded their family after adopting their first daughter Isabella Jane in 1992. Later in 1995, they adopted their son Connor. Although, the couple was very secretive about their kids, mostly keeping them away from Hollywood’s glimmering spotlight.
It is no secret that Nicole Kidman was madly in love with the Mission Impossible actor. After their divorce in 2001, Kidman told Vanity Fair about her intense love for Tom Cruise.
“I fell madly, passionately in love. And as happens when you fall in love, my whole plan in terms of what I wanted for my life — I was like, ‘Forget it. This is it.’ I was consumed by it, willingly. And I was desperate to have a baby with him. I didn’t care if we were married,” she said.
Cruise also admitted that his “first reaction to meeting Nic was pure lust.” Further adding, “It was totally physical.”
Remarkably, Stanley Kubrick’s film Eyes Wide Shut brought the couple even closer. The movie was steamy and Kidman has a lot of memories from the set.
“[We] were happily married through that. We would go go-kart racing after those scenes. We’d rent out a place and go racing at three in the morning. I don’t know what else to say. Maybe I don’t have the ability to look back and dissect it. Or I’m not willing to,” she told The New York Times Magazine in 2020.
The divorce was quite shocking for Kidman, and many fans also found it hard to digest their favorite couple splitting up.

The couple indeed had great times while their marriage was intact. Kidman even confided that they “were in a bubble.” “Just the two of us. We became very dependent on one another,” she said.
Following their divorce, the couple shared custody of their children, however, the kids decided to stay with their father in LA while Kidman moved back to Australia. Cruise, being an active devotee of the controversial faith Scientology also raised the kids in the Church of Scientology. As per reports, the kids have maintained a distance from their mother.
“My kids don’t call me mommy, they don’t even call me mom,” she once said. “They call me Nicole, which I hate and tell them off for it.”
After their divorce, Cruise reportedly moved on quickly. Even during their divorce, Cruise was dating his Vanilla Sky co-star Penelope Cruz in 2001. But they too split up in 2004. Later, the actor married his third wife Katie Holmes. Since then, Cruise has been single, though recently he made quite the buzz after being seen together with Shakira at the Miami Grand Prix. Many reports indicated that he was fond of the singer as he reportedly sent flowers to her after their meeting.
Kidman had a happy ending too, as after splitting up with Cruise, her career reached a new height when she received an Oscar nomination for her iconic role in Moulin Rouge and finally won the award for her role in the 2003 film The Hours. Kidman married country singer Keith Urban in 2006.
