James Gunn found his man to don Superman’s famous red cape in David Corenswet. The 30-year-old actor, best known for playing the lead in the popular Netflix series Hollywood, will play the famous role in Superman: Legacy, which Warner Bros. is releasing in 2025.
A lot of people on the internet fan cast David Corenswet as the DCU Superman, and that fan casting became a reality which is very rare. Although Corenswet has starred in some high-profile films, he is still relatively unknown in Hollywood, which makes him a perfect fit to play Superman.
David Corenswet is All Set to Play Superman following Henry Cavill’s Exit
Superman is one of the most well-known and highly-watched roles in Hollywood because of his status in pop culture. Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, and Henry Cavill have all portrayed Superman on the big screen in the past.
When it was revealed that Henry Cavill would not be reprising his role as Superman in the DC universe, many fans immediately started fan-casting for the next Last Son of Krypton. And, Corenswet was the widely used fan casting for the part.
After numerous auditions, David Corenswet was selected to play the role. Pearl, a slasher-horror film, and The Politician, a Netflix comedy-drama, are among Corenswet’s cinematic projects.

Interestingly enough, it’s not the first fan-cast made reality at DC, the same thing happened with Xolo Maridueña as Blue Beetle, and IIRC the idea of Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke came to Jon Berg after seeing some fan-art of him as Slade

In fact, in an interview back in 2019, David Corenswet expressed to Entertainment Weekly his desire to play Superman. And, now he can fulfill his wish.
Superman: Legacy is set for release on July 11, 2025.
