Excellence and mediocrity are two sides of the same coin and Hollywood is an industry that recognizes both extremes. While the Oscars and Golden Globes reward the most memorable films and acting performances of the year, the Golden Raspberry awards or the Razzies as it is popularly known, rubs salt into wounds by exposing the worst works.

With the awards season well underway, it’s officially time for the Razzies 2024 with the year’s nominations in each category being released. While there are the few usual suspects, the inclusion of some A-list actors and a DC entry make up the list of surprises.

Jennifer Lopez and Chris Evans Feature In Razzies 2024 Nominations

What’s worse than an actor being trolled for his or her performance? Receiving an award for being the best among the worst! Over the years, the Razzies have uniquely rewarded the least memorable movies and performances of the year in Hollywood with many A-list stars being on the receiving end of these embarrassing awards.

This year is no different with A-list celebrities Chris Evans and Jennifer Lopez  featuring in the Razzies nominations for the Worst Acting Performances of 2023. While Lopez was nominated for The Mother, Evans’ performance in the box office flop Ghosted resulted in him being featured in the list.

Jennifer Lopez could win Worst Acting performances at the Razzies for The Mother

While both celebrities have a reputation of being solid actors who have combined star power with powerful performances, their 2023 efforts turned out to be a rare off-day for them. While The Mother received flak for its loose and unrelatable narrative, Lopez’s uncharacteristically uninvolved portrayal of a pregnant contract killer did not touch a chord. Incidentally, this is the star’s 2nd Razzie nomination after 2002, when her performances in Angel Eyes and The Wedding Planner got her onto this infamous list.

Meanwhile, Evans’ unimpressive chemistry with Ana De Armas in Ghosted was also dismissed by audiences and critics apart from the film itself being trashed as unwatchable. De Armas too is in the reckoning for a Razzie along with Lopez in the same category.

Shazam 2 Is Up For Worst Picture At The Razzies 2024

There’s no doubt that it has been a mixed bag for the superhero franchises in 2023. But nothing could have prepared DC for what was in store in the Razzies nominations for 2024. While Shazam!: Fury of the Gods did not fare too well at the box office as well as with critics, the Razzies gave the film the dubious honor of receiving 4 nominations.

Shazam 2
Shazam 2 is a surprising entry in the Worst Picture category at the Razzies 2024

Among the four nods, Shazam 2 is up for the Worst Picture of the year. Given that Zachary Levi and team did not set the screen on fire, it is still surprising that the film earned this reputation over a bigger failure like Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in this category.

Another defining reason for Shazam 2 being rated low is the fact that the sequel could not live up to the entertainment quotient of its predecessor. Despite the embarrassing recognition, the film can take heart from the fact its Marvel counterpart Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is also up for 4 awards in the Razzies.

The entire nominations list for the Razzies 2024 is given below
