This willingness to tackle human nature has translated into their next project: an adaptation of Cixin Liu’s science fiction masterpiece, “The 3 Body Problem.” Many experts have found the book an almost unadaptable source text. However, there was a time when even G.R.R. Martin’s epic was also considered to be one before Benioff and Weiss pulled off the impossible.

Death is often messy and ruthless in Westeros. The characters have almost no moral dilemma stopping them from doing whatever they want to do. One of the most ruthless methods of torture Game of Thrones featured was the infamous Molten Gold Death in the first season.

While it was brutal to witness even in fiction, it’s even more disturbing knowing it mirrored real-world torture from centuries ago. Years ago, gold was molten and poured down the throat of the victims to punish them. The suffering and the end must surely have been more painful than it sounds.

For the nerds, famous victims of this death were Marcus Licinius Crassus, an immensely wealthy Roman general, and Valerian the Elder, the Roman emperor. The creators of Game of Thrones visibly did a lot of research to bring George R.R. Martin‘s A Song of Ice and Fire to the screen.

While fans believe that the show eventually went downhill, there’s no denying that it still is one of the greatest live-action art. Given the dedication of Benioff and Weiss, it is a no-brainer that they are the best men for 3 Body Problem.

3 Body Problem is created by Benioff and Weiss and Alexander Woo will also join them. The movie’s official consensus on Netflix reads “Across continents and decades, five brilliant friends make earth-shattering discoveries as the laws of science unravel and an existential threat emerges.”

The Three-Body Problem series is a science fiction saga that dives into humanity’s first encounter with an intelligent alien civilization. The story explores the challenges and consequences of this contact, throwing humanity into a struggle for survival.

Given how Benioff & Weiss made the on-screen adaptation feel just as rich as the novels, there’s complete hope that they did justice to the 3 Body Problem story, and didn’t just turn it into commercial fare for Netflix. All 8 episodes will start streaming on Netflix from March 21, 2024.
