Even though Goku and Vegeta fans argue among themselves, there was a time when they came to a single conclusion. They had accepted Gohan to be the strongest Saiyan of all and expected him to lead the next generation.
While Goku has been the protagonist of the franchise since its inception, Vegeta made his debut in Dragon Ball Z as a major villain. Later, he changed sides and became an ally to the Z Warriors. Unfortunately, Goku’s son could not live up to the expectations, and the fans have found the real reason behind Gohan not reaching the heights of his father and uncle.
Gohan Has Poor Eyesight
Gohan surprised everyone during the Cell Games saga when he defeated Perfect Cell. Even during the Majin Buu saga, he showcased his true potential. But after that, everything went downhill. Thanks to Chi Chi, he was more focused on his studies and research than picking up fights all the time like his pure-blood Saiyan elders. Fans have come up with a new theory on Reddit that explains his lack of interest in fights.

The theory claims Gohan’s poor eyesight to be the reason behind him being less attracted to fighting. Saiyans live to fight, but Gohan, being of mixed blood, does not have the same urge as his father. He might have known that his poor eyesight might be a disadvantage for him. Even though he loved to train with Goku, he was not completely inclined to that idea. Instead, he was a studious person.
Being studious, he had to read and use the computer for research. These things may have damaged his eyesight and caused him to rely on a pair of glasses. He is probably the first Saiyan to have a pair of glasses. It humanizes him and makes him more relatable, but at the same time, it makes him an easy target, like when Frieza returned to Dragon Ball Super.
Gohan’s Eyesight Problem Led Him To Do Silly Mistakes
The fan theory about Gohan is not entirely false. During the Majin Buu Saga, he missed the Potara earring when Goku threw it at him. Even in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, the same thing happened when he missed a Senju bean thrown at him. Both of these incidents are examples of his poor eyesight. These incidents happened when he was leveled up.
Even though there have been a few slips from Gohan, there is no doubt that he is one of the most powerful Saiyans. In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film, he attained a new form known as Beast Gohan. Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball, said it made him the strongest Saiyan in the franchise. So, even after having poor eyesight, he still managed to surpass Goku and Vegeta.
Gohan having poor eyesight is still just a fan theory. Whether it affects his fighting prowess or not is a mystery. He was nerfed in Dragon Ball Super, but when he takes something seriously, there is no Saiyan that comes close to him. Poor eyesight or not Perfect Cell and Cell Max are great examples of how powerful he can be.
