Andrew Garfield has made his name as one of the best Spider-Men among the several versions we have seen yet. Even though his version didn’t receive justice and his story was left without closure, The Amazing Spider-Man duology is widely popular among fans. However, both the movies didn’t see a good box office run and also received negative responses initially.

The deal regarding Spider-Man between Sony and Marvel has always been a confusing one. The problem became evident once again when Sony decided to reboot the superhero after the Sam Raimi movies. Surprisingly, the Marvel Executives didn’t want the movie to happen.
Why Marvel didn’t want Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man movies?
One of the noteworthy facts is the Marvel we know today is very different from what we have in the pre-Kevin Feige era. The widely controversial Ike Perlmutter had all the control back then and was also responsible for some of the most debatable decisions in the MCU.
Many of these incidents came out to the general audiences after the release of the book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios. It is reported in the book that Perlmutter and company weren’t so happy when Sony thought of rebooting Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man movies with Sam Raimi. The studio expected Sony to return the fan-favorite character to them.
On the announcement of the Andrew Garfield movies, Ike Perlmutter was displeased as Marvel wanted to get back possession of one of its most precious superheroes. To make things smoother between both parties, Sony re-negotiated the deal in 2011 and Marvel got hold of a 25% share of Sony’s merchandise profits for $175 million.
Marvel also agreed to finance Sony with $35 million for every Spider-Man movie they made. The merchandise sales were high and allowed Marvel to finance Sony in their Spider-Man features. However, The Amazing Spider-Man movies didn’t do good and Sony and Marvel formulated a deal together for a rebooted version of the character to appear in the MCU.
How did Andrew Garfield get the role of Spider-Man?
The Amazing Spider-Man acted as a major catalyst to Andrew Garfield’s career. Even though he came to public recognition from The Social Network, the Spider-Man movie brought him worldwide fame. If the book is to be believed, then the details about the movie were announced quite abruptly. The director Mark Webb was not a regular name either.
According to Andrew Garfield, Spider-Man was his childhood favorite and he wanted to see himself in the suit for a long time. This made him very nervous during the audition and he used a trick of his own to ease off the extra pressure. As reported by Screenrant, the actor thought of it as an audition for a short film with his friends.
It was a successful move for Andrew Garfield as the trick worked and he went on to become one of the best Spider-Men of all time. Despite some fans also stating him as the best among the three, the debate can never end. There is a high demand for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 which was canceled earlier and it can’t be denied that this is the best time for it if it’s really on Sony’s tables.
