Rebecca Ferguson has marveled at astounding movie roles, including her recent appearance in the Denis Villeneuve-directed Dune franchise and Tom Cruse-starrer action espionage movie series, Mission: Impossible. The actor wore an eyepatch in the seventh installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, and she has candidly explained the reason behind it.
The Swedish star plays Ilsa Faust, a disavowed MI6 agent, in the celebrated action franchise. However, her eyepatch in the 2023 hit Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One intrigued several fans of the franchise. The actor revealed that there is a splendid backstory behind it.
Rebecca Ferguson Explained Her Eyepatch in Mission: Impossible 7
Rebecca Ferguson’s eyepatch in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One was cool to watch as it matched the persona of the character she played. The actor agreed that it was quite cool. “That is quite cool, isn’t it?” Ferguson asked, appearing on HeyUGuys with her co-star Simon Pegg.
“You think that the reason for the eyepatch is a cool one? It is not. Alas, it’s because I can’t f*cking wink. He [Christopher McQuarrie] lined up the shot. I took it. I was ready, I was breathing. And he goes, Now close your eyes. And I went, and he went, ‘to close the one eye.’ Okay, other shot, other angle. I go through the eye. ‘Can we get an eye patch? Anyone?’ There’s nothing more to it than that,” Ferguson said.
The actor revealed that she “can’t f*cking wink” for which the director of the movie, Christopher McQuarrie, got her an eyepatch. However, for the actor, it was not as cool as fans perceived it in her scenes wearing the eyepatch. It was circumstantial but served the cinematic purpose beautifully.
Rebecca Ferguson Revealed The Bittersweet Experience Of Filming Mission: Impossible 7
It was not the best of time, it was not the worst of time to film the seventh installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise. The movie was filmed during the pandemic amid all the COVID-19 protocols. Ferguson revealed that it was bittersweet, “You know, there was a lot of things that came from it. I mean, it was a horrible time for everyone,” she told HeyUGuys.
“And yeah, I don’t want to talk about it in any joyous way. One thing that was phenomenal was the security that they shaped. For us to be able to shoot that did set the ripple effect for people to see. It works. And I think for us, something for me was arrive Venice after it had not been touched by people. The water was so clear, it was so beautiful. We had space. It was just a completely different environment. Yet in a mission setting it was very confusing.”
The global lockdown has cleaned the environment to a great extent, as reported by several outlets at the time. For the cast and crew of the film, they had to put pressure on the outside to make it work on the inside. “It helped,” Pegg said of the $567.5 million movie.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2 is scheduled for 21 May 2025 release.
