Capcom has undoubtedly had major critical and commercial success with its Resident Evil (RE) franchise over the past decade. So, it’s no surprise that the developers have continued to double down on the survival horror franchise and give us remakes after remakes. Various reports suggest that Capcom is already working hard on Resident Evil 0 and Code Veronica remakes.

While this has caused massive hype among fans of the franchise, many of them are equally disappointed and frustrated with Capcom. For years, fans have been hoping to get a remake of the original Resident Evil game. Few reports suggested that the developers were actually working on the project. However, prominent leaker Dusk Golem says the alleged Resident Evil 1 remake isn’t going to see the light of the day anytime soon.

Reports Suggest Resident Evil 1 is Not Getting a New Remake

Capcom has been on a hot streak since 2017’s Resident Evil 7 as the game rejuvenated the franchise. In the many remakes that followed, Capcom crafted games that reimagined experiences and fixed many issues from the original titles. Many thought Capcom would follow the same formula for the original Resident Evil game and bring a deeper sense of horror beyond what the 1996 original was capable of.

Unfortunately, it seems like players will have to wait quite a while to experience the Resident Revil 1 remake. One of the reliable industry insiders, Dusk Golem, revealed that Capcom isn’t working on a remake of the original game.

Recent rumors suggested Capcom was planning a Resident Evil 1 Remake for the franchise’s 30th anniversary in 2026. However, Dusk Goldem calls these rumors “bulls**t.”

The original game was released in 1996 and received a significant overhaul in 2004, called Resident Evil HD. In recent years, gamers have demanded a modern style of the original game, as we’ve seen in the remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4.

It’s quite sad that one of the most loved entries in the Resident Evil franchise isn’t getting the modern makeover it deserves. However, with how Capcom has been remastering old titles, there’s still a chance that they will eventually give us a modern Resident Evil 1 remake in the future.

Resident Evil 5 Remake Is Not Coming Out Either

RE:5 is not actively in dev now either. It’s been funny seeing this

Capcom might return to Resident Evil 5 in the future, as Code Veronica ultimately ties up to Clair Redfield’s plotline and provides the base for Albert Wesker’s return. For now, all we can do is wait and see what the developers are planning for the future of this epic franchise.
