For many gamers in the community, Titanfall 3 is a pure tragedy. Titanfall 2 was praised by everyone for its single-player campaign and rewarding multiplayer, and its success made a third entry in the franchise seem obvious. Back in 2020, EA once teased that Titanfall 3 was coming, with reports suggesting that the developers are already working on the game.
However, as the years went by, both EA and Respawn Entertainment stopped giving updates about Titanfall 3, leading to many fans believing that the game would never come out. This was right around the time when Apex Legends debuted, which connected to Titanfall’s massive universe. It seemed like players would never get an explanation behind the game’s cancellation, but one of the former Respawn Entertainment designers has now revealed why Titanfall 3 never got to see the light of day.
Former Respawn Entertainment Designer Explains Why Titanfall 3 Was Cancelled

The Titanfall franchise is undoubtedly beloved amongst video game players, having obtained cult status thanks to its fun, action-packed mech warfare and agile first-person shooter action. Titanfall 3 was expected to take the franchise to the next level with new features and revolutionized multiplayer action. Despite the excitement among fans for the project, it was ultimately canceled.
However, fans finally have an explanation of what exactly happened to the third entry. Speaking to BURNETTWORK, Mohammad Alavi, one of the former Respawn designers who developed titles such as Call of Duty and Titanfall, confirmed that the studio worked on Titanfall 3 for 10 months before it was permanently canceled.
According to Alvai, Titanfall 3 was canceled because the game was actually a victim of its own success. The team’s devotion to a brand-new multiplayer experience mode led to part of the title’s ideas being ripped for Apex Legends.
We had new tech for it, we had multiple missions going, we had a first playable, which was on par to be just as good, if not better, than whatever we had before, right? But I’ll make this clear – incrementally better, it wasn’t revolutionary. And that’s the kicker, right?
Alavi mentions that Respawn had used new technology to craft Titanfall 3. Although he knew it wouldn’t be a revolutionary game, it would’ve been certainly better than what was seen in Titanfall 2.
The former Repsawn designer said he’ll always miss having a Titanfall game as he considered the second game one of his “crowning achievements.” However, he admitted it was the right call to divert the resources since Apex Legends eventually became one of the best battle royale games.
Could Titanfall 3 Eventually Happen?

Fans have been desperate for a third installment in the Titanfall franchise for several years, even after EA outright abandoned it in favor of Apex Legends. However, a new job listing from Respawn Entertainment has filled everyone with new hope.
As spotted by eXputer, Respawn is currently looking for a game designer director for its Incubation Team who has major professional experience in designing FPS experiences. The candidate needs to handle a team of designers to craft a good game, which seems to confirm that there’s a new title in development.
However, it’s crucial to keep in mind that there’s absolutely no guarantee that this is going to be a Titanfall game. After the cancellation of a Star Wars Mandalorian game right after the world learned about it, it’s crucial to be cautious and keep expectations to the bare minimum.
