In 2021, Ryan Reynolds, Salma Hayek, Samuel L. Jackson, and Antonia Banderas formed a glittering cast of Hollywood A-listers as they shared screen space in the action comedy The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, a sequel to the 2017 film, The Hitman’s Bodyguard.
This action-packed fun entertainer saw the ensemble reprising their roles from the earlier film with the spotlight this time, on Salma Hayek’s character. In an interview after the film’s release, the Frieda actor revealed how the cast continued their enjoyable camaraderie on set, with Reynolds leading the group by pulling her leg with regard to her accent.
Salma Hayek Was Trolled By Ryan Reynolds For Her Accent
In The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, two of Hollywood’s most desirable stars Salma Hayek and Ryan Reynolds shared screen space once again in the sequel to the 2017 film. Apart from sharing good chemistry on screen, both stars also enjoyed a friendly bond behind the camera, which included lots of lighthearted banter and teasing especially on the part of the Deadpool star.
Hayek and Reynolds made an appearance on BBC Radio 1 after the film’s release, to talk about their experience working together. During the course of the conversation, the Mexican actor who is known to have a strong Hispanic accent, revealed how Reynolds gave her a hard time in one scene in which her character was trying to put on a British accent.
”Reynolds traumatized me. He thought I was terrible with my British accent. I did not think so. I thought I was a natural Brit and I said to him, ‘Ryan does it sound good?’ He said, ‘Just give it up, it’s 3 in the morning, I cannot help you with that, do I look like a miracle worker’”?
Despite the joking jibes, Hayek confessed that she enjoyed enacting this particular scene from the film the most, and confessed that Reynolds was one of the most entertaining co-stars to work with.

The Latino star explained that Sonia Kincaid had a method to her madness. While she was full of contradictions, most of these quirks were actually relatable to her. Hayek also spoke about the thought process of her character who was strange, but consistently so. These were the unique aspects that drew her to the role. Hayek also went on to express her gratitude to her director Patrick Hughes for giving her an interesting part to experiment with in a film that was more in the commercial blockbuster space.
