Daisy Ridley‘s leading role in the sequel Star Wars trilogy was embraced pretty well in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. However, Lucasfilm’s direction with 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi and 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was met with extreme divisiveness among core fans. Rian Johnson even received death threats from fans after The Last Jedi completely went against what fans expected from the film.

Ridley recently appeared on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast where she was asked about the dismal reactions from fans to the last two Star Wars films. She acknowledges that Johnson’s film was extremely divisive and she still feels upset that fans were not satisfied with what they were served in the last two films. She said,

“It’s still upsetting because you don’t want people to feel like you’ve like not served the thing they’re a fan of. But, Ryan’s one was so divisive. So it really felt like the first one was fairly, everyone was like responsive in a similar way. And Rian’s one super divisive and the last one super divisive, but it didn’t change how I felt about it.”

As Ridley states, she is thankful for the experience of doing the three films and will carry on her Star Wars tenure with her upcoming solo film. Fans hope that this film changes things for the better and brings back the glory days of the franchise again.

Ridley had nothing but great words to say about Obaid-Chinoy and her pitch for the film. She also praised her documentary works and promised fans that the film would be worthwhile for fans. She told Variety,

“The short answer is I don’t know. I’m excited to do the job, but not because Sharmeen is a woman. Her documentaries are amazing. Her idea for the story is cool as shit. No spoilers, but she gave me a rundown of the entire story. If it weren’t amazing, I would have been like, “OK, call me in five years.” But it’s worthwhile.”

Not much is known about the direction of this new film and its release date. However, judging from Ridley’s words, Obaid-Chinoy seems to have prepared something exciting for Star Wars fans and the hope is that it revitalizes the franchise.
