Ridley Scott Vehemently Defends The Counselor From The Negative Reviews

Ridley Scott’s The Counselor was released in 2013, and it featured stacked cast members featuring Penélope Cruz, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, and Michael Fassbender. However, the thriller films did not match the standards of the Alien director, as it became his most divisive piece of work to date for a plethora of reasons.

Recently, Ridley Scott had an exclusive interview with Rolling Stones, where he vehemently protected his 2013 film, stating that the film happens to be one of his favorite films to this date and that he was quite disappointed to see the negative reception of the audience upon its release.

“Probably not. I passed it by Cameron first and said, ‘So… what do you think?’ And she said, ‘So what?’ And I said, ‘OK!’ And I said, ‘I’m not gonna describe it, just read it.’ Cormac McCarthy, in my world, is probably the best dialogue writer ever. The Counselor is one of my favorites of my movies, but it’s a very dark subtext, and you can feel it coming from minute one.”

The Gladiator director added that the film was “fun and cynical,” and he appreciates how people have started to enjoy and appreciate the film now, something they haven’t done when the film was released back in 2013.

“It’s so dark because it’s based on a certain amount of truth. I was so disappointed, and I don’t know who to blame because I think the film is really f—-n’ good. It’s so fun and cynical. People take it so seriously! People are getting it now. It’s always annoying because my films tend to get got later. The famous one is Blade Runner, which was dead for twenty years and then was discovered again by accident at the Santa Monica Film Festival.”

The Counselor happens to be one of the lowest-rated films in Ridley Scott’s illustrious career, the film is currently sitting an average rating of 34% from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The rating is a shocker for everybody as the film didn’t lack the star power nor the story and plot as it was penned by Cormac McCarthy, and it was dismissed by the critics stating the film as “too wordy.

Cameron Diaz’s Voice Poised Too Much Problem For Her in The 2013 Film

Cameron Diaz attracted a lot of positive and negative attention for her daring role in Ridley Scott’s The Counselor. However, the actress faced a lot of trouble as she had to redo her role in the movie. This is because the actress sounded quite similar to Rihanna. The Bad Teacher actress was supposed to have a gentle Barbados accent for her assigned role.

However, when the film executives listened to her voice, they were taken aback because she managed to sound just like the Love on the Brain singer. Hence, the executive decided that it would be better to make the actress redo her work so that they don’t end up with more controversies.
