It’s barely been a couple of days since the release of Team Ninja’s Rise of the Ronin. Going by the reviews, however, those who have so far rated the game positively believe the game should be given enough chance before being slammed immediately.

Fans believe Rise of the Ronin should not have a similar experience to what happened with another PlayStation exclusive, Days Gone. Bend Studio’s title was heavily criticized when it was released back in 2019, only to be praised years later.

Fans Believe Rise of the Ronin Should Not Get the Same Treatment as Days Gone

Bend Studio’s Days Gone was released in 2019 and was one of those projects that didn’t garner a lot of positive reviews at launch or even post-launch but eventually got a lot of credit for being one of the best zombie games in recent times.

One of the reasons Bend Studio’s title got criticized immediately was down to the number of bugs in the game, and the other reason was also down to the director, John Gravin, not taking the game’s initial reception well. However, the same title picked up a lot of praise in its current, bug-free version.

Team Ninja’s Ronin is being criticized by some for poor graphics, underwhelming combat, and generic characters. Fans are now hoping the new title gets a better reception, as it’s still early days since its release.

Development for Rise of the Ronin started back in 2015, which is another reason some fans feel the game looks the way it does, visually. Fans are now divided about the ratings received so far for Rise of the Ronin, as some believe the average ratings due to the shortcomings are highly justifiable, while another fan mentioned the title does not require ultra-realism details given the genre.

Team Ninja Director Wants Fans to Experience Reality

Any hopes of Rise of the Ronin getting a sequel will hinge on just how well the new PlayStation exclusive gets received.

Straying away from the usual Souls-like titles, Ronin offers players three difficulty levels, something not seen in other titles of the genre. Team Ninja’s producer and director, Fumihiko Yasuda, even went on to state that he hoped fans would consider Ronin a “historical adaptation rather than a reality-based experience.

Ronin is also said to have a detailed character designer and rich “Japanese-ness” in its combat. Yasuda also confirmed that the team was responsible for several hours of research and fact-finding to keep things as close to realistic as possible.

Fans have been voicing their opinion that Days Gone deserves a sequel, which wouldn’t happen now after all the average reviews the title received upon release. A walk down a similar path, and fans are worried Ronin may also never get a follow-up title down the line, even if the Team Ninja game ends up being a fan favorite after a couple of years with bugs squashed.
