Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid has been subjected to varying opinions of success. While the film has crossed the $400 million mark globally, few critics feel that a closer look at the box office numbers might reveal a more complex picture. However, irrespective of all that, it seems like the movie is on its way to surpass some of 2023’s Hollywood hits.
According to Variety and a few other media outlets, The Little Mermaid has accumulated a box office collection of around $414 million globally. And now, as per the fans, it looks like the movie is set to surpass the $500 million mark.

Fans believe that The Little Mermaid is on its way to $500 million
Recently, Film Updates on Twitter revealed that The Little Mermaid has made over $400 million worldwide. And excited to see their favorite movie cross the mark, a few Twitter users predicted that the film will go on to earn another $100 million or more.
A Twitter user wrote, “500 million by this time next week I know it and then 750 million is next and then a billion.” Whereas another one commented, “deserves $410B.”
A few others celebrated the achievement and seemed excited about the future prospects. One fan tweeted, “And it will continue to go higher.” While another one wrote, “🕯️🌕800 MILLION WORLDWIDE FOR ‘THE LITTE MERMAID’ 2023 BY JUNE 21ST🌕🕯️” One other predicted,

It is interesting to note that more than half of the earnings of the movie have come from domestic theaters. But this somehow diminishes the achievement as the makers anticipated a worldwide success. Additionally, considering the movie’s reported production cost of $250 million (excluding marketing expenses), the $400 million collection doesn’t seem great in terms of profits.
Will The Little Mermaid Surpass John Wick 4 and Ant-Man 3?
Currently, projections suggest that The Little Mermaid may finish its global run with approximately $500 million. Based on the fact that over the weekend, the movie grossed around $22 million domestically, the projections do not seem far-fetched.
And if the movie achieves the $500 million landmark, then it’s possible that it will surpass Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Keanu Reeves’ John Wick 4.
As per the data available, it is known that the third installment of the Ant-Man series has recorded a worldwide collection of around $476 million. Moreover, Keanu Reeves’ John Wick 4 has grossed approximately $428 million worldwide – just $14 million more than the current collection of The Little Mermaid.
