Airing live on Sunday on NBC, Peacock, and E!, the show hosted by Simu Liu announced the winners of the top categories.
Expanding the number of categories to 45, this year, People’s Choice Awards 2024 hailed Margot Robbie’s Barbie with the top movie prize and voted Grey’s Anatomy as the show of the year. Among other big winners, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Pedro Pascal, and more, took home the popular award. Meanwhile, Adam Sandler accepted the People’s Icon Award, and more such popular celebrities were crowned on Sunday, as per PEOPLE.
Further, when it came to movies and actors getting crowned for their performance, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes won the award for The Action Movie of the Year. Quite shockingly, toppling John Wick: Chapter 4 and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Rachel Zegler’s movie got appreciated for best action scenes. Further, even Zegler was crowned as the Action Movie Star of the Year.
Fans Upset with the Awards ignoring Keanu Reeves and Tom Cruise
Overthrowing the veteran action stars of Hollywood on her way to prominence, Rachel Zegler marked her position in the industry with the People’s Choice Awards 2024. Previously, when she was nominated for the Action Movie Star of the Year category, even the actress failed to believe that she would be competing against Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves.
But surprisingly, during the main event, Rachel Zegler quite flawlessly took home the auspicious award for the Action Movie Star of the Year. Despite Keanu Reeves and Tom Cruise being considered the best thing that happened to action cinema for the past few decades, newcomer Zegler took home the award. While it seems fishy, fans were almost sure that the awards were rigged.
Uh… did we forget about John Wick 4, Mission Impossible 7, and The Equalizer 3? All had much better action than this and 2 of them have A-list movie stars doing their own stunts.
