Robert De Niro is one of the most revered names in Hollywood and arguably the best actor of his generation. He has given some of the best performances Hollywood has ever seen in many iconic films. His dedication and talent have been an inspiration for many actors who came after him and consider him a role model.
The actor has not yet dabbled in a full-blown TV series in his long and varied career. He almost starred in a big-budget thriller alongside Julianne Moore. He was set to become the highest-paid actor in a drama series for that project. However, the project was scrapped a year later it was announced.
Robert De Niro Almost Became the Highest-Paid Actor for a TV Drama Series
In 2016, Robert De Niro was announced to star in an Amazon series directed by David O. Russell. The project would have also starred Julianne Moore and it had a lavish budget of $160 million. The series was an ambitious project for all members involved and De Niro himself was demanding a pay that would have changed the history of dramatic television.
According to Variety, De Niro would have been paid $775,000 for each episode of the series which would have made him the highest-paid actor for a drama series at the time. However, the project did not materialize and was scrapped a year later.
As put by Indiewire, the series was canceled a year later, mainly due to the Harvey Weinstein scandal (his company was a producer on the series. Another reason was the downfall of Amazon Studios head Roy Price who was accused of sexual harassment by a producer.
Leonardo DiCaprio Considers Robert De Niro As One Of His Cinematic Father-Figures
Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro recently reunited on-screen in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon after 1993’s This Boy’s Life. The duo also share a common friend and collaborator Martin Scorsese who they have each worked with several times over the years.
DiCaprio recently talked about both his mentors in the film industry and how they have changed him as an actor. He considers both men as his cinematic father figures while also pointing out his full circle moment with De Niro on Killers of the Flower Moon. He said, (via People)
“Well, in a lot of ways these two men that we’re speaking to have been like cinematic father figures to me. I got to do my first major starring role with Bob, and he and I worked together. He told Marty about me, and I’ve gotten to do six films with him now. And here we are 30 years later.”
The two actors got to show off their intense chemistry in Scorsese’s film and reminded people that they have not lost the magic that they created 30 years ago. Both actors have been nominated for their performances in various upcoming award events.
