In a recent interview, Robert Downey Jr. revealed that a “terrible tragedy” has befallen the veteran director. It’s nothing serious but the director doesn’t seem to like the spotlight. With the director potentially on to win the Oscar for best director, Nolan recoils from the attention.
A Terrible Tragedy Has Befallen Christopher Nolan
After starring in the iconic role of Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor started in various projects throughout the years. In 2023, the actor starred in Christopher Nolan’s magnum opus Oppenheimer in the role of Lewis Strauss.

In a recent interview, Downey Jr. revealed to Variety that a “terrible tragedy” has befallen Christopher Nolan. Although it is nothing serious, Downey Jr. has revealed that the success of Oppenheimer means that people have started noticing the director on the streets. The actor revealed that Nolan “has become recognizable on the street.”
The Iron Man actor revealed that although Nolan is getting fame and recognition from the world, it isn’t necessarily true that the director enjoys it! As per Downey Jr.’s words, the director “recoils, as though from a hot flame, from this new and unwelcome reality”. Well, working with such an acclaimed director has its fair share of brain-scratching as the actor revealed that working with Christopher Nolan felt like solving a sudoku while drowning!

In a separate interview, the actor talked about how Nolan wrote his scripts. With equally convoluted time sets and changing scenes in the blink of an eye, Robert Downey Jr. said on the Actors Roundtable that it felt as if he was solving a sudoku while drowning!
“He asked me to come over and read the script on red paper with black type, which was like doing sudoku while drowning. I read it and it was written in (the) first person. I was like this is this is masterful.”
With a high rating of 8.4/10 on IMDB and a whopping 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, Christopher Nolan and Robert Downey Jr.’s film is indeed making it big in Hollywood. The film has already started winning awards and accolades and fans hope that the film continues to earn more and more! Oppenheimer is available to rent on Apple TV+ in the U.S.
