GTA 5 was a highly anticipated game in the months and years leading up to its release, and that hype was reflected in some of the records it currently holds. It is some of these records that GTA 6 will have a tough time overcoming.

Namely, they are that GTA 5 was the fastest video game to earn 1$ billion in just three days, that it is the second highest-selling video game ever at 185 million copies across platforms, and that it is the joint fourth-highest-rated video game of all time with a score of 97 out of a possible 100
What are some other records held by GTA 5?
The records mentioned above aren’t the only records held by the game, far from it. It is recognized by Guinness World Records as the best-selling videogame for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) with over 20 million copies sold. It was also the best-selling action-adventure videogame in 2014.

Furthermore, the game even set a new record on its first day of sale, selling just over 11 million copies and quickly becoming the best-selling videogame in 24 hours. GTA V was also the highest-rated video game on the eighth generation of consoles, being the highest-rated game on Metacritic for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at 97, as mentioned earlier. It is tied with Rockstar’s own Red Dead Redemption 2.
Other than these records, the game also holds the record for the most viewed trailer for an action-adventure videogame, which was set back in 2012 with 23 million views. Today, the same trailer has been viewed 88 million times. Apart from this, the game also holds the record for the highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours, at $815.7 million.
