There were many actresses who ruled the box office back in the ’90s and early 2000s but none have had an impact like Meg Ryan. From romance movies like You’ve Got Mail to action films like Top Gun, the actress has never been short of fame and love from her fans. Not only has she partnered up with some wonderful actors, but her career is one that people can see as ever-growing.
Despite the fame and fortune that surrounded her, there was a gap in which Meg Ryan seemed to be away from any camera. For a while, eight years to be exact, Ryan was nowhere to be seen, hiding from the limelight as her son, Jack Quaid had his own journey of his rise to fame. However, she does not regret any of it.
Meg Ryan’s 8-Year-Long Break From Hollywood
Before releasing What Happens Later in 2023, Meg Ryan was last seen in Ithaca. The movie was released in 2015, giving the actress an eight-year-long break from the Hollywood industry. She explained to People just what drove her into hiding from the limelight despite the amount of time she gave away to the industry itself.
“I took a giant break because I felt like there’s just so many other parts of my experience as a human being I wanted to develop.”
She wanted to work on herself as a person and not focus on her acting career primarily. Labeled as a queen of the rom-com genre, Ryan’s decision to step away was purely personal. She wanted to dedicate more time to herself and her family. This included her two children, Daisy, whom she adopted in 2006 as well as the ever-famous Jack Quaid, whom she had with her ex-husband Dennis Quaid back in 1992. She built and improved her relationship with them, as it helped her envision her acting career more as a job than something she surrounded her life around.
Meg Ryan’s Absence Gave Room for Jack Quaid’s Career to Grow
Meg Ryan is a big star, there is no doubt about it. She is one of the most renowned superstars and her films are loved by all ages alike. Her absence from the Hollywood industry may have been noticed by many, but it benefitted Jack Quaid greatly. Not only could he avoid having the tag of nepotism on him, but he also rose to fame thanks to his role as Hughie in The Boys.
Labels and remarks aside, growing from his mother’s shadow would have been another challenge for Quaid on its own. It supported his career in a perfect balance without ever finding a way to interfere. Ryan’s connection with Quaid remained to be one of two celebrities and mother-son in a personal manner. Neither of which overlapped.
