The Harry Potter franchise started with 2001’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe, and Emma Watson played Ron Weasley, Harry Potter, and Hermione Granger from J.K. Rowling’s books. One of the most amusing scenes from the film is when Harry and Ron meet for the first time on a train on their way to Hogwarts.

The scene showed the two characters sharing the same compartment and introducing themselves to each other. Grint in an interview (via Instagram) revealed that he and Radcliffe did not shoot the scene the way it was shown in the film. They were separated and filmed individually as they couldn’t keep a straight face when they were facing each other. He said,

“In the first film, there’s a scene where we’re on our way to Hogwarts on a train, we’re in the compartment. We were never actually in the same compartment when we did that. We couldn’t look at each other so we had to film each other’s close-ups separately cause we couldn’t look each other in the eye and keep a straight face.”

The two became very close friends and have grown up together through the films. They still keep in close contact with each other even after the end of their tenure in the franchise. The funny anecdote indicates that the two actors became fast friends from the day they met on set for the first time.

Rupert Grint played Ron Wesley in all eight of the original Harry Potter films. Doing the films formed a major chunk of his life and he made his career out of the franchise. While he is grateful for the love and appreciation from the fans, he found the experience of doing the film to be grueling.

Speaking to GQ, Grint claimed that it was a rigorous schedule in shooting the films as they would shoot most of the year and at other times were promoting each film. It was hectic for the whole cast and Grint found this cumbersome schedule suffocating. He said,

“Potter was so full on—[filming] all year, then we’d promote the rest of the time. It was quite suffocating,” he told Bustle. “I wanted a break, to reflect on everything… It was an out-of-body experience for a while, but I think we finished at the right time. If we continued, it could’ve gone downhill.”

In 2023, Grint appeared in M Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin. The film received positive reviews and was a success at the box office. He also returned in season 4 of the Apple TV+ series Servant. It received rave reviews from critics and audiences.
