There was this rumor just recently that Ryan Coogler, Michael B. Jordan, and Warner Bros. joined hands for another possibility of a vampire movie. But then, as always, it will not be a regular vampire movie, as for this project, the vampires will fight against the KKK or the other way around, with the KKK as the vampires, hunting Colored people.
In simple words, the Ku Klux Klan, also known as the KKK, is a white supremacist hate group that has inscribed myriad violent and murderous episodes of social disorder in its blood-stained history. More than that, the KKK is an odious and maleficent organization that neither upholds nor practices membership associated in any respect.
Michael B. Jordan’s Vampire Movie Could Spark Outrage With Plot Involving The KKK
Hollywood leads Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan seem to have set their eyes on another vampire film, which, under normal circumstances, is bound to incite protests and ill will against Warner Bros.
As the sources state, the story seems to involve one of those aspects where a group of Black vampires takes on the KKK or let it be that the KKK is a group of vampires hunting the people of color.
The subjects could be racism, violence, oppression, and resistance, but all this would be in a horror setup. Being in the early stage of development at Warner Bros., the consequence is that the studio might face bashing from the audience and critics, coming out as disrespectful, crude, or exploitative, as the plot, source material, and adaptations are making fun of movements for social justice.
The claim of Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan has been made by John Rocha and Jeff Sneider in their YouTube video.
Some may contend that the film treats the past and current KKK crimes lightly and that it classifies African Americans or vampires in a certain manner. Others may doubt the wisdom of the timing and relevance as some parts of the world are in chaos while the entertainment industry is growing every day.
However, Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan have already shown that they are gifted and creative individuals who can address intricate and challenging issues with depth and delicacy.
They are also able to produce extraordinary stories that are often rich and receive lots of awards and praise from critics. The movie would be another probable boom for Warner Bros. due to Coogler and Michael B. Jordan‘s fame and publicity and the vampire genre’s demand in the media. But only time will tell if this project was a step in the right direction
Hollywood’s Enduring Bite: A History of Vampire Films
From the creepy shadows of the silent days to the massively CGI’s of now, vampire movies have been holding Hollywood audiences in their spell since the beginning of the century. These ever-immortal creatures, alluring and thirsty monsters, are being reimagined and reinvented time and again, acting as a mirror for human fears and fantasies.
Mid-20th century had more comedic variations, Dracula: Dead and Loving It and Vampire’s Kiss divided humorous and vampiric in an unusual manner. Nevertheless, the 1970s saw the rise of a horror trend that confused the two subgenres; the Night of the Living Dead, drawing a thick line between vampires and zombies, reflecting a growing societal unease.
The dawn of the new millennium saw a wave of diversity in the genre. Blade brought forward an amazingly bad-a** vampire slayer, on the other hand, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series gave strength to young ladies with supernatural skills. The Twilight Saga ignited a phenomenon, showing vampires as sparkly heartthrobs, attracting a new generation of fans.
Now, vampire movies keep changing and they reflect a more diverse portrait with newer stories and characters. Ranging from the witty comedy of What We Do in the Shadows to the feminist narrative of A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, vampires are a powerful archetype perpetually reshaping to reflect our present-day fears and aspirations. As long as darkness fascinates, Hollywood’s vampires will remain our enchantresses.
