Have you ever been curious about what it would look like if silver screen charisma had a face-off? This is going to be an exciting one because the upcoming Deadpool 3 flick promises a feast of fandom greatness. How? Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman seem to be paying homage to Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man in the highly anticipated Deadpool vs. Wolverine fight scene.
The nostalgic nod to our beloved web-slinger is not only a treat for eagle-eyed viewers, but also a masterstroke of intertextual brilliance that unites strands from our favorite superhero universes. Marvel’s squabbling pair is back at it: The trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine was just released, and it features Jackman’s Wolverine and Reynolds’ Deadpool acting out their respective roles.
If you are not familiar with comic books, Spider-Man and Deadpool have one of the most intriguing relationships—and not just because of their obvious parallels. The two have a puzzling friendship that has its ups and downs. The two characters are vastly dissimilar, but they share a sense of humor and style.
Ryan Reynolds & Hugh Jackman’s Ode to Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man
You might remember that in the 2002 Spider-Man flick, Tobey Maguire’s titular character fights Joe Manganiello’s Flash Thompson, the school bully, after Peter Parker finds out he had gained new powers from a spider bite.
Having said that, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were pleasantly surprised when the Deadpool 3 trailer revealed a highly anticipated fight scene between the Merc with a Mouth and Wolverine. But what grabbed the attention of eagle-eyed viewers was the subtle nod to Maguire’s portrayal of Spider-Man.
Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, and Hugh Jackman, who returns as Wolverine, engage in a brutal and intense fight scene in the trailer. Amidst the punches and kicks, however, Reynolds’ Deadpool playfully alludes to Maguire’s classic Spider-Man fight scene in the school canteen. A fight scene between Maguire’s Peter Parker and Thompson (Joe Manganiello) following a spider bite is reminiscent of Deadpool dodging a blow from Wolverine.
Well, his subtle homage to Maguire’s Spider-Man didn’t go unnoticed by fans, who took to X to share their excitement and appreciation for the nod to the much-loved superhero.
Let’s read what fans have to say:

The addition of this Easter egg also brings an additional dimension of depth and levity to the highly anticipated Deadpool 3 film. Well, it appears that there are a few other Easter eggs that you will be delighted to see in the upcoming flick.
Deadpool & Wolverine: A Nod to Canadian Acting Legends John Candy and Ryan Gosling
Ryan Reynolds, the star of Deadpool & Wolverine, has recently paid homage to two of his fellow Canadians in the upcoming Marvel Studios film, which follows Wade Wilson and James Howlett, a.k.a. Logan and Wolverine. The actor posted a photo of his character’s toupée on Instagram, ahead of the release of the new Deadpool & Wolverine trailer. The photo featured gave a major shoutout to Ryan Gosling and the late John Candy, two Canadian celebrities.
Wade is seen sporting a shirt with pictures of the Fall Guy and Barbie star, but the Candy Easter egg is less obvious. He is reading The Canadian Mounted, the same book that Candy’s character, Del Griffith, from the classic comedy Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, reads.
After appearing in several Hollywood productions, Candy, a Canadian comedian-actor, gained recognition in the 1980s. He died in 1994. His heartfelt buffoon roles in films like Uncle Buck (1989) and Planes, Trains, & Automobiles (1987) made him a household name.
Featuring Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Matthew Macfadyen, and Emma Corrin, Shawn Levy’s Deadpool & Wolverine will arrive in movie theaters on July 26.
Also, Spider-Man is streaming on Disney Plus.
