Something the audience has wanted for a while is a Deadpool Christmas movie and unfortunately, it won’t be possible any time soon. In a revealing interview with The Big Issue, Ryan Reynolds disclosed that both he and the writers of the Deadpool films, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, had crafted an entire festive-themed Deadpool movie. Despite their efforts, this Christmastime adventure for the merc with a mouth never made it to production.
Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool Christmas Movie Got Lost in a Shuffle
Actor Ryan Reynolds understood how much his fan base needed a Deadpool Christmas movie, and feeling the pulse of this yearning, he undertook the initiative to create one himself. During an interview with Big Issue, the actor revealed that he had penned a script that checked all the boxes for a festive season film. Unfortunately, amidst the chaos, this project got lost in the shuffle.
He said,
“I would love to see a song and dance number in a Deadpool movie, Four years ago [Deadpool co-writers] Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and I wrote a Christmas movie starring Deadpool. But it got lost in the shuffle of Disney acquiring Fox and it never got made. Maybe one day we’ll get to make that movie. It’s not a musical, but it’s a full Deadpool Christmas movie. So one day.”
Reynolds kept mum about further specifics regarding the prospective Christmas movie. It’s intriguing to consider that the project would have begun taking shape around the release of Deadpool 2. Despite fans feeling a sense of dwindling hope, they remain highly anticipative of a Deadpool Christmas movie.
The audience, in Turn, Got a PG-13 Holiday Version of Deadpool 2
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers, had previously penned a PG-13 version of Deadpool 2, Once Upon A Deadpool, for the holiday season at the studio’s command but confessed that the essence of the character thrived better with a more mature rating.
The toned-down violence and profanity in Once Upon A Deadpool that graced the theaters only for a limited time, somewhat diluted the essence of the story, leaving it feeling muted at times. As Disney prepared to acquire Fox’s properties in 2019, the movie probably served as a trial to gauge audience reaction to this potential shift. While noticeably not as robust as its original counterpart, it remains an engaging and enjoyable watch.
