Deadpool & Wolverine… & Dogpool? Well, it most certainly seems like it, because Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine won’t be the only beast in the movie accompanying and changing Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool’s, life. But while the inclusion of a four-legged creature into the storyline has fans’ support, what they don’t understand is the inclusion of this specific dog, as seen in the trailer.

Or, to put it even more simply, the inclusion of a dog that isn’t even handsome enough like a Golden Retriever. In fact, this question of fans is only valid, because, as it turns out, the dog is actually the ugliest dog in all of Britain. That said, there’s some good news for the fans wondering about this because Reynolds is here to clear all of those doubts with an incredibly thoughtful reason.

Ryan Reynolds has a Thoughtful Reasoning Behind Dogpool

When this canine was first seen licking Deadpool’s face in D&W‘s latest trailer, a lot of fans had the same reaction that Hugh Jackman had in the background. And while that reaction is understandable because of how the dog looks, there is some critical thinking involved behind this inclusion.

During a recent interview with Empire, the Wade Wilson portrayer shared the thoughtful reasoning behind the same while expressing how “it’s love at first sight” between the iconic sassy-as*y anti-hero and this newly introduced dog, and that Deadpool actually “loves Dogpool.”

Revealing that this canine-counterpart-of-his-anti-hero’s real name is PeggyRyan Reynolds said:

“She won the award for Britain’s Ugliest Dog. The reason why I was a huge proponent for her was because she feels like the animal manifestation of Wade Wilson.”

Wow. Wow. Reynolds most certainly has a way of catching people off guard, because this specific revelation for one felt like nothing short of a personal attack that we weren’t ready for. (Perhaps someone should have added a ‘personal attack incoming’ warning before adding this?!)

But while this feels like a personal attack to all those Deadpoolers (aka Deadpool lovers) out there from around the globe, there is more to this story than this, especially about how this particular character went from a “tiny little afterthought” to one of the most iconic features in the entire movie.

Dogpool was Originally Added as an Afterthought!

Continuing during the same interview, the Free Guy actor went on to express how the inclusion of Peggy (the dog, in case you forgot) was never intended to become as much of a major element in Wade Wilson’s personal character development as it ended up becoming.

Reynolds said:

“It was, just like many things during the writing process, a tiny little afterthought, and it grew. It was one of those things where you just keep listening to the movie, and [the character] became a staple.”

Yet, even as Peggy the dog has been incorporated as a staple into the storyline for Reynolds’ character, “Dogpool’s a Pool, so probably has some moral flexibility about where she wees and poops,” as Reynolds confirmed.

But apart from this canine-‘merc with a bark’-counterpart-of-the-anti-hero’s inclusion in the film, it’s gonna get really ruff for Wade Wilson’s world, so LFG!

Deadpool & Wolverine hits the theatres on the 26th of July, 2024.
