Has Ryan Reynolds Already Decided the Winner Between Wolverine and Deadpool?
Although we can expect a team-up between the two iconic characters, set photos from Deadpool 3 have confirmed a clash between the two. And while Levy remains tight-lipped about the details, his recent comments hint at a possible defeat for Deadpool.
During an interview, Shawn Levy was asked about the highly-anticipated showdown between Deadpool and Wolverine. While he carefully avoided revealing too many details, Levy hinted that Deadpool might not emerge victorious in this battle.
Levy stated on The Jess Cagle Show (via Sirius XM):
“And, in fact, I’ll say this because Ryan was also my fellow writer on this movie and is my fellow producer on this movie. At every turn, Ryan is amazing at wanting Deadpool to lose. Deadpool… the truth is that Deadpool’s awesome, but he’s deeply flawed — and Wolverine is Wolverine.”
He continued:
“So, I’ll just say that as a creative, 360 force, Ryan operates from a place of, ‘What’s going to be most satisfying to the story?’ [And] not from a place of, ‘Well, I gotta get an equal number of victories and punches into the other character.’”
His remarks suggested that Ryan Reynolds, who is not only the star but also a writer and producer on the film prioritizes the story’s satisfaction over ensuring equal wins for both characters.
What Could It Mean?
Deadpool franchise exists within the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Disney’s acquisition of Fox’s movie and TV assets. While it will remain its r entity, the film could follow the MCU’s trend of concluding trilogies with major losses for its heroes. This was seen in films like Iron Man 3, Captain America: Civil War, Thor: Ragnarok, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
In Deadpool 3, a loss for Deadpool could serve as a catalyst for his growth and development, setting the stage for future adventures within the MCU.
Whether Deadpool comes out victorious or tastes defeat, one thing is certain: the highly-awaited clash between these two iconic characters is sure to be a highlight of Deadpool 3.
Deadpool 3 will be released in cinemas on July 26, 2024.
